  • Maybe there are some extra files that PPro doesn’t need/want. The best way to import footage, especially when dealing with different cameras/codecs, is to use the Media Browser (It’s right next to your Effects bin) and pull them into the project from there. For some reason, importing this way can help alleviate some issues with mxf files as well.
Let us know if that works any better!
    Good Luck!

In CS6 I’ve had P2 MXF media go offline when bouncing between PPro and AE linked comps. Not sure why it happened, but hasn’t happened recently. I just closed PPro and opened it again and everything would link up.

I never bother with preview rendering a yellow line, they usually play back just fine. In fact, I don’t preview render many red lines. I render a final file, don’t see much sense in spending so much time rendering. And you can always delete render files easily at any time – Sequence menu, Delete Render Files.

You can double-click the color matte in your bin or on your timeline to change the color.

  • Up at the top I see your brush is set to Pin Light mode. That would be why that is happening. Change it to Normal.

Not sure what compression you are using on the 4k. But the theoretical rate for Firewire800 is around 100MB/s, but will most likely be less – realistically around 70 or so. Most likely you will find editing that way quite slow.

[Sergio Menezes] “frame rates should all be consistent at 29.97”

They should be, but are the frame rates the same from original media to your 1 hour sequence to final render? I’m just trying to rule out what it sounds like.

What about frame rates? Have you checked all your frame rates? Frame rate of original media. Frame rate of original 1 hour sequence. Frame rate of rendered files. What are all those? It sounds like the frame rate of your original sequence may be different from what you rendered out.

Double-check your frame rate on your original sequence and rendered files. Make sure your frame rates match up. Also, in PPro, drag your rendered file ()move, avi, mp2, whatever) to the New Item icon lower-right in the bin window. Then play it. Is it still choppy?

I would probably get a different drive to backup to. Or get a different cache drive – an SSD might be a good option for that. But for backup, it would be best to be able to remove from your computer. Lightning strike could take out your computer and everything attached to it. And I would use software to do backups. I’ve used xxclone for cloning system disks (and you can do incremental backups to that system disk, which is way cool – plug it in and boot up when you need to). xxclone.com, but you would need to contact them to find out if they are running it on Win8, their site only states up to Win7. There’s also https://www.backup-utility.com/, which I haven’t used, but seems very similar to function as xxclone.
    Good Luck!
