4K through Firewire 800?
I’m editing 4K HD footage smoothly on the old Mac Pro system. We have a Raid drive with only Thunderbolt out. If I convert the Thunderbolt out to Firewire800, will I run into bottleneck issues? (we bought the new Mac Pro, but had set up issues and had to revert back temporarily). I can’t switch out the internals on the old Mac Pro.

Not sure what compression you are using on the 4k. But the theoretical rate for Firewire800 is around 100MB/s, but will most likely be less – realistically around 70 or so. Most likely you will find editing that way quite slow.

I would check with some mac people but the thunderbolt->fw800 adapter is one way conversion only. FW800 device to thunderbolt computer port. You might be putting the cart before the horse.
