So that’s your sequence settings, what is your original media? File container, codec, frame rate? And what hardware did it come from. If phone, then Jon has your answer.

It won’t be VFR, that typically comes from phone cameras. So it does sound like Jeff may be correct. Do you have the original Sony folder/file structure off of the card?
You could try transcoding your problem footage to ProRes or DNXHD and re-edit that footage in.

There are some things I don’t see in any posts…
What is your original footage? What is the container, codec, and frame rate? And is it variable frame rate? Weird things happen with variable frame rates.

Delete renders and disk cache. Close project and reopen. Any better?

Is this with a FW400 4 pin? Does it seat well? I captured a great deal of miniDV a few years back using an old Macbook and Sony deck. Had a difficult time getting it to stay capturing, similar to what you are having. Ended up, I had an issue that tiny connector not seating well. I gaff taped the cable connector tightly to the deck and was able to capture fine – had to put a little pressure in one direction to get it to work properly. You might want to see if that could be an issue or if there is some other problem. That 4 pin connector was the absolute worst.

Yep. I second John’s suggestion. The VideoRevealed series is pretty well done. That’s where I always point people to.

Handbrake will transcode your variable rate to constant rate quite well. I’d go with that to do it.

Question… how much space is on your system drive and what is the total drive capacity? And same question for the drive with your media.

I know I’m late to this thread… you say you updated PPro? Have you tried trashing your preferences?

I agree with Jeff. I will leave AE linked comps on my timeline and put the fully rendered out of AE version over the top and it renders just fine. Does not take into consideration the AE comp on the lower layer which if I rendered in PPro would take forever.
