    Starting with the simple things…

You’ve checked Audio Output in the Output Module settings?

“Output modules and output module settings”
“Note: Before rendering, check the Audio Output settings in the Output Module Settings dialog box to ensure that they are correct. To render audio, Audio Output must be selected.”

August 26, 2009 at 1:08 pm in reply to: AE Cs4 IS PLAYING WRONG FRAME RATE!!!

You say that you only copied over the VIDEO folder from the P2 cards? That could be your problem. The P2 format relies on an XML file in the CLIP folder to give information (like frame rate) about the video essence files.

The instructions in “Import assets in Panasonic P2 format” explain more.

August 26, 2009 at 4:56 am in reply to: 32bpc Glow doenst render

What exactly do you mean by “don’t come across”? Do the results of the effect not appear in the rendered frame at all, as if you hadn’t applied the effect?

The Glow effect is a 32-bpc effect, by the way.

    from “Preview video and audio”:

” To stop a RAM preview, do one of the following:
    * To leave the current-time indicator at the last-played frame, press the spacebar.
    * To leave the current-time indicator where it was before you started the RAM preview, click the RAM preview button or press any button other than the spacebar.”

August 26, 2009 at 4:38 am in reply to: adding a stroke to an object

You could use a shape layer to provide the stroke. Shape layer strokes have a miter join option, which gives sharp corners.

August 25, 2009 at 4:11 pm in reply to: lower/upper field

To add to what Dave said:

The important thing about the specialized cameras used for filming action for slow motion is that you can shoot at extremely high frame rates. That way, when you slow the footage down to 24fps (or whatever), you have all of the information from full frames—rather than have to interpolate (make up) image data for some of the frames.

Software like Twixtor or Timewarp is good for slowing down some, but a factor of 50 really relies on having _shot_ at a high frame rate.

August 25, 2009 at 1:58 am in reply to: Help needed with CS4 Aspect Ratios

Some major broadcasters and some software companies asked us repeatedly to fix the pixel aspect ratios for some older, standard-definition formats. We did. When the wrong thing has been done for long enough, many people consider it to be “right”, so this change has certainly taken some time and effort to adjust to.

To learn how to work with the pixel aspect ratios, why they were changed, and even how to avoid using the correct values, see this page and this page.

    > Please let me know if there is somewhere else I should be listing these bugs.

    bug-report/feature-request form

Several of the problems that you mention sound like problems that were fixed in the After Effects CS4 (9.0.2) update. Have you installed that update?

    > I’m slighty confused by all this, as I was under the impression that CS4 merely used the code from Nucleo under the hood anyway?

I’m curious about where you heard that. It’s not true.

  • Do your resoultion settings match between your Composition panel and your render settings? I’ve noticed that some particle effects behave differently at different resolution settings.
