Here’s a list of reasons for After Effects disabling Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing.

But, in general, if you’re running both After Effects and Premiere Pro at the same time (as you are with Dynamic Link), then 4GB isn’t much memory, and you’re probably better off not trying to use Render Multiple Frames multiprocessing.

It sounds to me like you have the settings on Motion Tile turned up pretty high, so that the result is wider or taller than the limit on the size of a layer. When resolution is set to half, only half of the pixels in each dimension are rendered, so turning the resolution back to full seems to put you over the limit.

“Some images are created as vector graphics in another application but are converted to pixels (rasterized) when they are imported into After Effects. If a layer is continuously rasterized, After Effects reconverts the vector graphics to pixels when the layer is resized, preserving sharp edges. Vector graphics from SWF, PDF, EPS, and Illustrator files can be continuously rasterized.”

Did you turn continuous rasterization on for the layer?

I’ll try to get back to this thread and answer in more detail when I have time, but in the meantime I suggest that you try searching within After Effects Community Help for some of the key terms that you’re curious about.

For example, this After Effects Community Help search for ‘paint tools’ brings up a page that says that “In After Effects, paint strokes are vector objects…”, answering your question about vector paint tools. Or this After Effects Community Help search for ‘pulldown removal’ that indicates that, yes, 3:2 pulldown removal is a feature in After Effects.

If you’re thinking of something like dragging a box around layers to select all of them in the box, then I’m sorry to tell you that there’s no way to do this directly in the Composition panel.

If you need to select multiple layers that share certain characteristics, then you might be able to make good use of the filtering feature in the Timeline panel to filter down to just the layers that you want, and then select them in the Timeline panel. Lloyd Alvarez also provides a very handy script called “Zorro” for tagging and selecting layers; there’s a link to it at the bottom of the “Select layers” page of After Effects Help.

I don’t know about Cinema 4D, but that seems like enough RAM and a good enough processor to do basic After Effects work. (It’s pretty similar to the laptop that I used for a lot of AFter Effects work until four months ago.) Just don’t expect to use Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing.
