Hi Ty,

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. But for 16×9 footage, you have a couple of choices.

One you leave it as 16×9 and then everyone who views it will need to be able to view in 16×9 format or it will looked squished.

Two-make a 4×3 version where you reduse the image down to a letterbox.

Third, you create a ‘center-punch’ where you create a full screen 4×3 image with your 16×9 footage (so some of the sides of the footage is lost in the 4×3 viewing)

Is the QT file just as a small reference file? OR are they going to want to
use the QT file to color correct?

If it’s just as a reference file, then anything that would play on their computers would be good. Sorenson or MPEG-4 is usually a good choice. They make small files with good quality and they are very compatible.

IF they need to use the QT file, then at MINIMUM the file size should be 5.5gigs, and that’s just for a DV file size. You probably should try to keep it uncompressed or lossless which would make the file a lot bigger. Either way, you’ll need to give them a harddrive with the QT file on it. (unless you have a dual layer DVD burner)

Hi,

I can’t speak for all the FCS apps. but it will work for the apps that let you choose the destinations in the preference panel. I did a test a while back for DVDSP and it worked fine. I believe I also tried Livetype? or Soundtracks? I know in one of those apps, you couldn’t because you can’t set it in the prefs.
So the answer is it will work for the apps that will let you change the desitination of the presets, templates, etc, but NOT for the ones that don’t. In other words, I wouldn’t try to manipulate the folders from within the OS.

Hi there,

I believe Derrick was responding to the fact that the graphics keep pace with his hands and he’s correct that they probably tracked it.

As to how they created all those cool graphics, it depends on which part of which commercial. From the ones that I’ve seen-most of it could be done in AE with a little help from Photoshop. The commercial keeps the 2D look of the graphics, so in some ways it’s easier to replicate. But the bulk of it is just their motion graphics creation. There’s one comm. that has a spaceship, that’s done with a 3D program, then it could be imported into AE. I haven’t watched the trades mags for this one, but I’m guessing that HP probably cut this on a Discreet system away.

Hi there,

We use a lot of Lacie’s with very little problems, I don’t have any personal experience with Wiebe Tech. We have a couple of Gtech drives that we really like, but you will pay more.

the real issue with your post is

that’s a LOT of footage. 3tb by my math, and that’s just to digitize, you’d almost need double if you did any titles, color correction, etc.

You’ll probably need to adjust your workflow. ie- offline, draft quality, etc.
But still, I can’t remember ANY time that I heard of someone dig-ing 300 hours.

Even Lord of the Rings, which shot at a terrible 1×100 ratio wouldn’t have needed to digitize 300 hours.

Hi There,

It sounds like you might have a iPhoto problem.
To see where the problem lies, you should look at your movie before you bring it into FCP. So, after you export from iPhoto, open the movie in QuickTime to see if it plays there. If it looks good, then you have a FCP problem, if it doesn’t look good-then you have a iPhoto problem.

After you figure that out, then you’ll have a much better idea on what you need help with.

I’m not sure what you mean? We would need a little more info about what you are trying to do, before I understand how to help. What is you end result?

Until you place the logo over a new background the black will still be visible. You also may want to check in AE after you render it. Throw it over a new background, does it work? If so, then it’s something to do with your next step, not AE.

Make sure you are rendering millions colors +
