I found a solution to this by saving the video clip I wanted to use in Windows Movie Maker and using the new version of the clip in Sony Vegas — somehow the black flickers just disappeared.

Hi Helen.

When you say ‘black flickers’, do you mean that the video blinks for a fraction of a second and then is ok? How many flickers or blinks do you reckon you have in your finished video? The reason I ask is, I quite often get the odd blink or blip caused by Vegas, and the only solution Ive found is to delete the offending clip from vegas then add it to the timeline again. (But I wouldnt call my problem ‘flickering’, its usually only one blink in the entire video).

I’ll try both those options. I had hoped for a quick-fix
solution, i.e. I’d hoped there might be a format option during rendering
which would do the job, but perhaps not.

Use pan/crop function to make a box larger than the photo, which will actually shrink the photo. You can then copy and paste attributes to the others, or adjust individually.

But the problem I have is, Ive already completed the video (it just needs rendering now). Hence I’d ideally like to avoid having to pan/crop all those photos and menus etc. Instead, I thought it would be simpler if I could find a way of adding a black border around the video, without chopping off any of the original content of the video.

I’m not sure if this is all possible, but I hope so.

Solutions most welcome.

PS: Re-reading this post, I might have given the impression
that I dont have the manual, when in fact I do.
I just read chapter 13 (Video FX and Compositing) but I could still
do with some advice how best to get top track to appear clearly
in lower track.

I’m actually looking to make a laser-type/lightsaber
effect show up from track 1 into track 2)

Thanks for the tips, Mike.
I tried the 1st one (the copy and paste trick), and it
did do the trick, but it also pasted the special effects
and transitions from that one frame, into all the other frames.
So its no on that one.

I’ll try the script next.

What would be a good bitrate setting to maintain
decent quality?

Also, I never touch the audio settings when rendering.
Would it be worth trying to compress audio more efficiently?
