I didn’t read through all the posts, so I am not sure if this answer has been said. But I’ve always found it essential when working with pictures to always delete the render files after changes have been made, and re-render everything from scratch. I’ve seen it where the smallest change with a render fix jitter, but when I deleted the render queu and started a fresh render, the problem was fixed. Hope this helps

You have to read the manual. Command +R works great on a selection, but you must select something. Render files can be deleted, misplaced, destroyed, flown in to space; but if they are not there, then you must re-render. It will not hurt your project, nor will you lose anything other than precious time. So I say, render, delete, render again!
Seriously, you are going to have to read the manual, purchase a book, or meet with a tutor. Best before asking simple questions on a subject you should already know.

Build a platform to lock stuff down. (if you are traveling and working) Nothing more annoying than hard drives moving all over the place, or hitting you in the head on a quick stop. I did a job recently where I was importing media from decks and camera’s while we traveled from state to state with a band. Bungy cords, power supplys, and alot of AC make the trips bearable and fun. Nothing like a mobile office. Enjoy it!

  • Had a feeling this was going to come up. It is an issue with Quicktime 7.2. Either remove 7.2 and regress to 7.1/7, or try this
Modify your sequence settings to 44.1kHz audio.
Once I did this, I was able to export using fli4mac’s widows media conversion. You can google the error message and read a bunch of posts, and/or visit Flip4Mac’s site. Hope this helps

I gotta agree with Herb. Best Buy has been in our local “investigative reporter” news segments so many times I’ve lost count. Always with people who have purchased faulty products and were “misinformed”, didn’t contact exactly the right person, misplaced one of many reciepts, etc. Not everything falls on the retailer for merely selling a product from a manufacturer, true; but the problems always seem to arise from that store in particular. Not to mention, their sales staff always come across to me a used car salesmen, and don’t really know their product, only say what they’ve been scripted to say. I hate that Apple will be sold there, because these idiots oversell, under inform, and charge up the ying yang any way they can. I have refused to shop there for the last few years, and will gladly continue to. Comp USA has an EXCELLENT business service where you get some noticiable discounts… 🙂

But that is just my humble opinion….

Camera downconversion? I know our Sony Z1u’s allow for downconversion straight from the camera. You specify whether it be cropped, squeezed, or something else–can’t remember. Regardless, you still have the HDV tape, and can always re-import in HDV if needed. Otherwise, straight from camera downscaled to DV works pretty darn well.

    Hope this helps

I will say After Effects has some new features that I personally think are great. While they don’t really mention it, the new shape tool/feature has been adopted in my arsenal and used more than any other feature right now. Animating the stroke, twisting and starting/moving end points has been invaluable. Something where I would of had to create in another program, add mask, etc now only takes me a few seconds. I LOVE this! –not to mention the cache cleaner, support for multiple processors (which needs to be improved, but good nonetheless), and a few other items have made this update essential to my needs.

(example of animated line–created the path/stroke easily in AE and then just animated my end point, (2 keyframes) moved the camera along the path, and added a few pictures, and Wala!)

They are absolutely terrible! My laptop was stolen quite recently, and I had to purchase a new one. Of course, I somehow wasn’t able to deactivate the adobe license before the stolen (what was I thinking, right??), and trying to relate that to Adobe was impossible. Not only did I have an incredibly HARD time trying to understand the barely able to speak English Indian girl, but I was put on hold 15 times, and on the call for around 45 minutes, with her only to come back on the line and tell me I had to deactivate the software on the (stolen) laptop before I could activate it on the new one. (try and figure that out…) As baffled as I was, I again explained I was NOT in possession of my stolen laptop, that my stolen laptop was NOT in a place where I could deactivate it, and how the person who stole my laptop did not do the courtesy of leaving me a number where he could be reached. Now they tell me there is nothing they can do.
So I end up hanging up on them, went online and purchased an upgrade (as I am on file), –which (talk about lucky) was the last day where they offered their “purchase the AE 7 for $199 and get AE CS3 for free”.
And I am just baffled at how complicated, intricate, and totally useless their new “creative license” is. Anytime you have to attend seminars to understand “simple and quick” instructions, you might not have what you think. They are trying to push their software that we (personnally) have NO need for, and trying to get the upgrade for only what we need is costing us quite a bit. So yes, they have gone downhill even from a year ago, where it was kind of fun to work through a buy. But that’s just my humble opinion. Great software, terrible CS–weoo, that just came out. Customer Service = CS. I guess we are on Customer Service 3 now…

One thing I’ve found is to go in to your preferences–>Memory and Cache and set it up to where your Image Cache–Maximum Ram Cache size is about 20-30% or your RAM, then enable disk cache and set that to an external (if possible). It tends to write to the disk instead of writing to RAM. Might be a small bit longer on render times, but I’ve successfully made it through a few rather large renders that weren’t succeeding. Hopefully this helps
