XSan is a small bit to set up, but we’ve been running it now for a year or so with no problems. (other than a small issue which, of course, had more to do with the administator than the software….) All in all, it’s worked very well for us and really wasn’t any trouble to set up if you follow the outlined steps.

Oh boy, do you have your work cut out for you…. Lots of GREAT stuff within the Total Training lectures. Study hard. The test is hard –I took it for AE recently–but if you read the manual and seriously study the total training tapes, you should be fine. Try not to cram it all in as much as possible, but actually learn the material, and you’ll be all right. Enjoy!

Generally, I convert the HDV footage to DVCPro HD, same size. It costs a bit more in real estate, but is much faster than HDV. You can pick up a great converter called MPEG Streamclip by Squared 5 that does some great conversion if you do not have the cards on your computer. Hope this helps…

  • Have you upgraded After Effects? Check in your plug-ins folder on your older after effects program, and copy them to your new ae plugins folder.

I have noticed in very unusual and extremely far between circumstances, sometimes you just have to restart FCP and the deck, and go in fresh. (Only happened once before….)
However, do make sure all your settings are correct, or this will not help.

April 19, 2007 at 11:40 am in reply to: FCP 6 Any improvements in the Text Generator?

Usually I end up exporting the project out using either the duck or rendered movie and bring it in to After Effects for the actual text build. –Or build the text in AE and use it in FCP. Seriously, the text generators in FCP are just terrible. Far to bulky and cumbersome to use with any good effect. But that’s just my opinion….

Funny. Seems they are figuering it out. Do you want to spend $$$$ on a company that has trouble hooking up a computer to a projector/external screen?? Kidding, of course.

Thanks for your help. I believe the end result will be the Kona 3 card. I’ll post in a few weeks with the the settings for anyone else who may want to know the results once we order and install. Thanks all!

Thanks Walter. It’s just the fun part of trying to figure out exactly what needs to be done exactly per my system to make the most bang for the buck, as well as (and more importantly) to give the clients exactly what they want/need. –keeping in mind most clients are trying to keep cost to an absolute minimum… Thanks
