That worked. Thanks Jeff. I’m not sure which setting it was, but it was definitely in those camera settings.

Thanks Mikael, but the video didn’t really seem to answer my question. Do you know of a solution to the field order preview in After Effects?

That’s gotta be it. The settings only list 4 cores, but I limited AE to 3 cores and tweaked the ram settings. That seems to fix it. Looks like I’ll futz around with that a bit more. Thanks for the ideas, guys!

    Interesting. Two thoughts:

One, what’s an ideal codec to use? Quicktime? I do often bring in m2v footage. Is there a transcoding program that’s popular?

Second thought: I checked out a project that has no video in it and did a ram preview. The preview doesn’t stall out for the 30 seconds that it does for other projects, but it does hang for a half second about 8-10 frames in. Obviously, that’s not a big deal, but I thought it might give some more insight into what’s going on.

Haha! I just did this myself a few months back for one of our shows. I actually created a whole super mario environment for a blue-screened character to move about in. Fun project. 🙂

Anyway, check out the BCC Mosaic effect. It’s got a lot of extra features in addition to the regular Mosaic. The key feature is the “Apply Mode” setting. I found this really helpful – Depending on your setting for this, it’ll give you the blocky look, but still add some level of detail within the mosaic. Without this, I imagine duplicating your layer and changing modes and transparency would yield similar results. Good luck, and have fun!

Forget it. Just found the .value[x] function.

Fair enough. With the ATI/Nvidia cards – Is the Nvidia card necessarily incompatible with the Axio? What kind of issues might I run into? I doubt that my Quadro card will change…

Thanks Adolfo. Yeah, we’re still figuring out the HDV workflow – I’m sure we’ll get it figured out.

I’ve been digging around a bit since I first posted, and the Matrox Axio has come up as another option. Have other AE users used this card before? It seems to have more of what we’d be looking for on the Premiere side, but AE is my top priority.

Thanks for the thoughts. Few of us at our station (even the engineer) think that HDV is the ideal format. However, with a desire to go to HD, but lacking the budget, HDV is what we’re stuck with – at least until we get the funding. I’ll look around the Premiere forum to see what people say about the AJA/Decklink’s compatibility with HDV – the companies’ websites surprisingly aren’t very helpful.

Thanks for the thoughts, David. It’s helpful to hear how other people do stuff. I do have some naming conventions, but it’s mostly just folders for each project. The XMP hooks you mention – is that something automatic? I’ve dabbled in Bridge – is that something I should be using more to get stuff out of the XMP hooks you mention?
