We have been watching NBC.com and ABC.com via the iPad over a verizon MyFi which is 3G and that streams at 720×480 (Square Pixel) and is streaming 30 – 60 min shows… and the quality is amazing… so it has to be possible to do….. And I am assuming it is a settings issue.

We do have Final Cut Studio with Compressor and the quality difference between the two is minimal. We usually transcode our 60 min broadcast using MPG Stream clip and then send to Dish and Roku to play… I do not know how they deliver (as Roku is over the internet) and I am assuming they do a second transcode when they get our materials….. If you still think it is an issue with MPG Stream clip and if you consider Compressor in the same league as MPG Stream clip can you give me some suggestions for software that will do a better transcode?

No it was actually shot in a studio under Studio Lighting. The image does not look orange in the tricaster….

So there is no hardware solution to this? Most other companies around here are using Black Magic cards and similar things on their machines…..

Thank you… I believe we have an option to go to tape via SDI out… but we still have to get the CC onto the video.

After some tinkering I realized that using Quicktime Conversion does not add a Time code to the video and there for was not working with the CC… Once this was fixed I was able to get the CC embeded…. Now the problem is that Compressor is adding a white stripe on the right side of the screen and compressing the rest of the video to the left portion of the screen.. I dont think this is an issue with the MovCaptioner… but something that Compressor is doing… as the previews through MovCaptioner are fine.

Is there a way to get rid of this white stripe in Compressor?

I will try the Pro Res idea… I haven’t tried that as a format yet… and hopefully that will work.

As for the deinterlace option…. I select that and the graphics still come out looking interlaced…. the video portion is fine… only the areas covered by graphics seem to be affected.

As for capturing to another fcp system on the fly… we will be going live for 9 hours and will have to capture for 9 hours straight… the tricaster allows you to make breaks on the fly and will make the file sizes far smaller… so unfortunatly going to another system is not an option… but thanks for the suggestion.

I will let you know if the pro res helps…

I read about compressor and making it aware of the other cores. I am sure that it is not currently aware… however my system was set up by the IT guy in our studio and he deleted it from the system preferences (“The less you have starting up the faster yours system will be” he said) and I haven’t figured out how to put it back in System Preferences short of re-installing FCP… which at this point is not an option.

Anyone have an idea how to get it back so I can try your suggestion?

Thanks… That made a huge difference with the MP4 conversion but compressor does not have an option for FLV files… is there an add on that is needed to export FLV?

I’m actually not going to a DVD… the footage is gotten through the NewTek Tricaster (which exports the MPG2 File with an MP3)… The editing that I am doing I need to cut, add titles etc and then send it back to the tricaster as a .mov file (as newtek only accepts its own formatted AVI, MPG2 files and Quicktime…. or so I have seen thus far)

The choking is in final cut while I am editing. When I click on the time line… you can literally almost count to 3 or 5 before the image, timeline and the system will respond… I have even got the beach ball a few times and thought I would have to restart, but luckily before I got to that point it responded… This is a major annoyance.. and if it is fixable I would love to know how.
