MPEGStreamclip is a great video utility program but if you want to transcode high quality video then you need to invest some cash in a dedicated transcoding application.

We have been watching NBC.com and ABC.com via the iPad over a verizon MyFi which is 3G and that streams at 720×480 (Square Pixel) and is streaming 30 – 60 min shows… and the quality is amazing… so it has to be possible to do….. And I am assuming it is a settings issue.

We do have Final Cut Studio with Compressor and the quality difference between the two is minimal. We usually transcode our 60 min broadcast using MPG Stream clip and then send to Dish and Roku to play… I do not know how they deliver (as Roku is over the internet) and I am assuming they do a second transcode when they get our materials….. If you still think it is an issue with MPG Stream clip and if you consider Compressor in the same league as MPG Stream clip can you give me some suggestions for software that will do a better transcode?

Indeed, the Verizon 3G network (Actually CDMA/EVDO) with the MiFi bridge is indeed fast (600Kb/s – 1.4Mb/s), fast enough to stream SD sized content, so I stand corrected on that.

The thing to consider is that in order to get that kind of speed you are going to need to be on the Verizon network and probably in procession of a MiFi as well?

I’m from the UK so I don’t know for sure but I heard that Verizon is not offering a service for iPad…

Both compressor and MPEGSC use the Quicktime H.264 libraries, which are widely regarded as bottom of the pile when it comes to quality.

I’d recommend you take a look at Episode which uses Dicas H.264
