    Hello,

    First I want to thank you guys cause you have all saved me numerous times from a splitting headache trying to figure out how to do things I was not sure of.

    Now on to the problem.

    I need FCP to render faster. I am working on a Mac Pro 2.26 GHZ quad-Core Intel Xeon with 6 GB 1066 MHZ DDR3 ram and 2 Nvidia GeForce GT 120 video cards.

    My problem is I am rendering out a total of 25 30 min broadcast shows to send to numerous different stations and each 30 min show takes approx 2 – 5 hrs (depending on the delivery format ProRes-H.264)

    Is there a hardware upgrade that will cut down the render times? If so what is it… Cost is not to much of an issue I just need to know. Does an AJA or BlackMagic card help with this?

    Also I am Coming out of a system with MPG2 and then converting to Pro Res so I can edit quicker in FCP…. Is there a workflow that will cut or kill that render time? I have been told there are ways to go from an SDI out on a Tricaster into a PRO RES box? Not sure what that is.

    just work in prores on everything.

    export each show then use compressor with virtual clustering turned on
    to convert it to its delivery format.

    that will speed things WAY up.

    So there is no hardware solution to this? Most other companies around here are using Black Magic cards and similar things on their machines…..

    Firstly if you need to speed up the ProRes final to H264, then export a self contained quicktime which is quick and then use Compressor to do the H264 and enable more cores by setting up a cluster in Qmaster.

    Matrox also make an accelerator for H264. https://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mac/compresshd/ . I think Elgato also makes an accelerator.
    If you need to go to mpeg2 transport streams then there are many hardware encoders like Tricaster & Tandberg

    Expensive but excellent quality and real time.

    Install a video I/O card like an AJA Kona or Blackmagic Decklink. You can then capture a live SDI stream to ProRes in realtime.

    I’m using one of the h.264 turbo HD USB dongles from Elgato for some h.264 renders. It’s been faster than cluster rendering on the MacPro 8 core machines. I’m just using referenced files instead of self contained. I supposed you could double up by using both a queue to the elgato and then another queue to a cluster for rendering.

    Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.
