I do appreciate what you are saying, but absent numbers from and independent and unbiased group (if such a monster even exists any longer) I pretty much have to stand by my statement that the numbers I’ve seen in the trades over the past four or so years are, to put it mildly, contradictory.

I posed the question because I really don’t have a clue as to what the answer is. The numbers I read in the trades seem to be contradictory. I do seriously doubt that the reason I’m only getting SD screeners has anything to do with the fact that distributors are afraid that pirates will put out HD versions. Most folks wouldn’t have the bandwidth to watch it in HD anyway. Which brings us to VOD and on that point I completely agree. VOD is a clusterf**k that can be any resolution at anytime depending on a variety of circumstances.

Jeez, I am dumb. Your reference was to dvds and blu-rays, not video games. But my answer would be the same. My son and his friends are paying off student loans. Occasionally they buy a song on itunes.

Not sure. But certainly not my son or his friends. They find ways to amuse themselves for free. Perhaps they are anomaly. I have no statistics to back it up but from the people I know (teens to dead) the video game market is much older than most think. Who is really paying for a 20 year old’s video games?

Really? Rant it may be but I don’t see anyone else’s rants referenced in his post. Just a “who cares” about what tools folks use to create. I have a 120 year old forged anvil and a 20 year old cast anvil. In the role that each play in the iron working process they make zero impact on the finished ironwork. The quality of the work rest with the aged, cranky – but still ruggedly handsome – blacksmith.

I worked on something this year that was shot with the RED Epic. It hit theatrical screens at 1080.
