Thanks Noah, but does the one in the USA switch between 59.94 and 60?

Steve,
Shoot with confidence on the Varicam with your BMD Card for post. The easy setups work well. We shoot at 60fps and it looks great. down/up converts are software based.
Also, we discovered that the 1200A VTR when set up for downconvert gives out a 50i 576 signal on the SDI spigot from material shot at 60fps with original sound. So you get two bites of the cherry. Shoot for slo mo and use the same footage for normal speed as well if you have a standard def outcome.

Thanks Gary,
I have made representations to Apple Australia, At a SMPTE conference in Singapore – plenty of times.
Yourself and Shane are to be congratulated on your representations at NAB. Looking at my original post I would soften it If I was to write it again. No offense intended Shane.
We can make so little noise out here to rattle Apple Amerca’s cage other than go public in forums such as the COW right under their nose. Perhaps in the future with less vigour.

Hello all,
Shane wrote
“While at NAB I met the project leaders for FCP, Motion and Shake at the FCPUG Supermeet. I asked them the same question…when will we see DVCPRO HD 25p support? All they said (and can say) is that “we are working on it.”
So they know the issue and they are working on a solution. When? Apple never says. Sorry I cannot offer any more of an answer than that.”
Theres what I am looking for, I wasn’t asking for you to become my/our personal advocate. Thanks for asking them
We’ll watch with interest what Apple does, Perhaps as Uli did we should report the failed pitches to production companies as a result of Apples lack of support.
BTW 12 or so HVX Cameras arrived in Australia for Dealers to demo last month. Perhaps as the critical mass of them increases we will see pressure mount.
Its been over a year since the 1200A Deck came out.
Thanks Shane

Thanks Walter and David,
Got your views about the Kona 3 which is great.
Can I ( like the old days with Cinewave ) mount the Aurora drivers on the Kona 3 machine and use footage captured on an Aurora card.
Thanks

THanks Steve
“What exactly didn’t the client like, was it the DVCPRO HD CODEC, the editing, the downconversion, the upconversion….?
Nothing specific in his criticisms, its what his engineers have said in favour of HDCAM and the Sony 750 camera that the network uses over Panasonic HD and it has stuck in his brain.
How is he monitoring the content, especially the 576p? Was it noisy, soft, too blue?…
Any hints?”He loved what he saw – saw it in a downconvert SD 9″ CRT for gods sake! Shots haven’t yet entered the Networks “Orange” world
I want to give him a couple of pars on why the 1200A recording a 108050i signal from a sony hi def camera is equal/superior/inferior to a like recording on a HDCAM deck.
I can easily give him cost, conveniece ( 12volt operation ) and the like
I know they are probably equal or in Panasonics favour slightly as you point out. I cant say it it tech talk.
In hindsight, this quote should be good enough!!
“The DVCPRO HD CODEC 1080i 25 (aka 50i) has 1440 Y / 720 R-Y & B-Y samples. When compared to HDCAM’s 1440 / 480 the chroma resolution of the DVCPRO HD CODEC much higher, the luminance is the 1440, the same. Both use similar intra field / frame adaptive compression with feed forward quantizer control. Both are sub-sampled and 8 bits.”
Could you add some of the sales pitch stuff?
Regards and thank you
