I guess the big question is, will the new find the old? As in saved projects that are from Red 3….Red 4 and Red 4.1. When Apple gets it together for the MacPro, will we be waiting on Boris to release another point upgrade for the transitions to work? And will we still need to jump thru hoops like running a seperate script to have Red recognize older versions and have caps lock down to start FCP for the first time…quit and restart without caps lock and need to have the older versions still loaded? (this is of course if we have moved our older projects from a G5 to a MacPro)
I have projects that are updated from month to month…year to year and when the new Red has problems finding the old and your clients sitting over your shoulder chewing down Rolaids asking “whats up with the transitions and effects?” You tend to start worring a bit and realize you need to spend some time at no charge to fix Boris.
Can we be so bold to ask for the next point upgrade to include all that is needed to run older Red versions along with the new without going back and loading older versions and then running a seperate script and then holding the caps lock for the first time starting FCP then closing and restarting without the caps lock?
Paul, please don’t read this as me attacking or being angry, maybe just a little frustrated. I think we all understand what you said earlier about writting for the new Mac Intel, and I hope that these comments and concerns are taken as feedback and not criticism. I think all of us appreciate your quick response to all our questions, I for one sure do.
Thanks,

How’s communications between Apple and Boris? Are things OK? This might not be the case but it seems like Boris and Apple are not getting along. Does Boris plan on contiued support of the Intel Macs, or will Boris be for PC only?
Paul, please let us know… if you’re allowed.
Thanks,

That’s also one of my error messages, does it go away after running the script or renaming the plugins?

Hi Paul, I did as you stated…sent an email to support. I did that on Monday and here it is Friday and I still have yet to hear anything.
I reloaded 4.0 on my Quad machine (for the 5th or 6th time) that’s running FCP 5.1.1 and it’s working, for how long I don’t know. One thing that I did notice in the instructions of 4.0 was to uninstall all Boris Red 3.0, but then I thought I read somewhere that you need 3.0 on there so 4.0 can see the older versions effects and transitions.
Now on the Mac Pro, I tried using just filters on FCP 5.1.2 and it gives me the FCP unexpected quit. It did this in 5.1.1 also. Is there a compatablity issue with the X1900 video card….4 Gigs of Ram….Dual 3GHz Xeons……

January 5, 2007 at 8:18 pm in reply to: Boris RED 4.1 MacIntel Native Universal Binary version now availableWell, I get “FCP unexpectedly quit” when I try to go into Red 4.1 controls. I’m using FCP 5.1.1, I have BCC 4 for the Intel machines loaded OS 10.4.7 4Gig Ram. I also don’t see RED static in the drop down from the Viewer. Has that been taken away?

December 31, 2006 at 6:35 pm in reply to: It’s December 27, have you seen where your Boris Red for Mac Pro is?It’s like when you have to take a leak and your on a long trip and you don’t want to pull over but you have to, so finally you do….and it feels Soooooo good. Is that how it’s going to feel when we get Red for Mac Pro?
A lot of pain followed by a big relief.

November 29, 2006 at 12:47 am in reply to: BCC 4 on Intel Mac with FCP. Anyone get this to work?I’m glad I didn’t get a chance to load BCC 4 on my Mac Pro dual 3.0. It’s still sitting here collecting dust. At least it’ll be a good tax write off. I guess I rely on Boris a little to much, too bad we can’t talk Cayman Graphics into putting out their CG for FCP.
