I’m not an FCP user, but I am aware of some of the methods used to go between AE and FCP and/or Motion.
1. The Automatic Duck plug-in. Done and done. AutomaticDuck.com
2. You can import a Motion project into AE if you tell AE it’s a QuickTime file. Use File > Import As…, select the file, and choose QuickTime Movie as the file type. In my experience, the playback results were not optimal. -
I don’t think AE has a font limit, but 2300 is A LOT of fonts. Let me repeat that… 2300 is A LOT of fonts to have active on your system at one time. That’s what programs like Extensis are for, to manage your fonts so your system and applications don’t get gummed up trying to manage all the fonts themselves.
My advice- use Extensis to only turn on the fonts you need for a given project.

No, Photoshop 7 doesn’t rasterize the text. You just need to select it with the text tool again and you can edit it.
There are a few ways to get rid of the mic in your shots.
1. If it’s only at the edge, you could scale up and/or reposition the footage to push it off the comp.
2. Mask out the mic using the masking tools, though that will leave a hole in the footage. If you have footage from the same shot, you can place that behind the layer and fill in the hole and it should look fairly seamless. I’ve done this successfully with people walking through the background of a tripod shot.
3. Cover up the mic with a title or graphic of some sort.
4. Export the problem frames to a still image sequence or Filmstrip file, bring them into Photoshop, and use the clone stamp to get rid of the mic. Newer versions of AE (6.0 and up) have a clone tool right in the program, which makes this process a little easier. -

You can also look into the Animation Presets in After Effects 7.0. In the Shape category there are presets for about a dozen vector shapes. And, of course, you can always create your own Animation Presets for custom shapes that you use frequently.

If you’re using AE7, the / (forward slash) key is your friend. By itself it zooms to 100%. Add shift and it zooms to fit the size of the comp window. Use Alt instead and it zooms to fit or 100%, whichever is larger.
I found these while rooting about in the AE shortcuts file. Always a fun time.
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Adobe\After Effects\7.0\Adobe After Effects 7.0 Shortcuts.txt If you’re on an older version of AE, try using the zoom shortcuts (comma, period, and forward slash) in combination with the Comp window sizing shortcuts (CTRL with – and +). Between the two sets you should get what you want.

It sounds like you don’t have pixel aspect ratio (PAR) correction turned on in the comp window. I don’t remember AE5 well enough to know what the option looks like, but there should be a button at the bottom of the comp window that turns it on and off. Either that or an option in the comp window’s pop-out menu.

You can’t drag an effect onto multiple clips at once, but you can apply the effect to one clip, copy the effect from the Effect Controls window, and then select all the other clips and choose Paste.
You could also put all your clips into a nested sequence and apply the effect to the sequence, if you want to use the same effect settings on all of them.

Look up Time Remapping in the After Effects help files. Read. Play with it in AE (it’s a lot of fun, actually). Then come back here if you have more questions after you’ve experienced it.
