I have two Quadro cards. A 4800 and an old 560.

My system interface is behind me in the photo in my cow bio.

The options are endless…and as Dexter says, you just save the workspace…get sick of it? Alter it and re-save it.

What workspace you want is completely up to you. All the default workspaces are single monitor. Figure out what makes sense to you and keep revising to your heart’s content. I use four displays and I keep tweaking and changing…haven’t found the perfect one yet…but I’m closing in…

July 9, 2011 at 4:05 pm in reply to: CS5.5 Graphics Card choices

Yes, I suspect that Alex pegged it.

Utilizing one CUDA GPU card enables the CUDA computations to be distributed through the cores via CUDA’s protocols…but if you were to use 2 CUDA cards, you’d need to set up some “multi-threading” function upstream from the cards…as well as the “merging” function downstream from the two streams of post-CUDA processing.

I’ve been trying to urge plug-in manufacturers to create a GPU capability to bypass the primary GPU card and look for the secondary as a setting that CS5.x users can set so the switching between traditional GPU capability and CUDA functions doesn’t need to happen on the primary GPU…

Strange. It’s been a while since I used CS4 frequently. Does it seem to make any difference what format you’re exporting to?

    I assume you’re on Windows?

July 9, 2011 at 3:33 pm in reply to: FCP to Premiere Pro FULL CONVERT

…you can play/decode/source an edit from ProRes on any computer with QuickTime installed.

(I have an Adobe TV clip where I editied a 90 minute sequence of ProRes on my Windows XP laptop in CS4.)

You can’t encode (render out/export, etc.) to ProRes unless you are on a Mac with FCP installed…or you have a system with SDI, HDMI, or analog component HD output and an external recording device lika an AJA KiPro.

(My initial response was poorly worded when I said “inside FCP” which is why Ben found it confusing…and frankly, incorrect).

If they’re your shows, why would you have to record them off-air?

July 9, 2011 at 1:39 am in reply to: Premiere across network

So…is it Premiere having the probem, or is AE not loading the assets because the project was moved without them?

Dynamic link isn’t really designed to work between two machines over a network, so when that AE project was ready to be brought over and DL’d on the PPro edit sequence, that project would have to move with it’s assets, or if you have duplicate assets on your machine, you’d have to relink into the AE project. It sounds like PPro may not be your problem if I’m understanding your situation (and there’s always a chance I’m not…)

Try uninstalling FCP and doing that.

The encoder is part of FCP. It’s in the QuickTime codec library when FCP is installed, but you have to have FCP in the machine (and of course therefore it has to be a Mac) to encode ProRes. So, yes, you have to have FCP to encode ProRes.

or…you could feed SDI realtime out to a device like an AJA KiPro product.

July 8, 2011 at 10:08 pm in reply to: Is ProRes the big victim of FCPX?

[Tim Wilson] “One interesting possibility with FCPX is that there’s never been an NLE to support more metadata fields. “

    How many does it support?

Premiere Pro supports more than I care to even attempt to count…three lists of EXIF data, Camera RAW, Dublin Core, Rights management, Photoshop, PDF, Content analysis, Broadcast audio extensions, Script, transcript, DICOM (each one of these things is a list of properties, not one).

I don’t think I’m sticking my neck out too far when I suppose there may be 500+ fields…Adobe has had this in place for several releases and it works across the suite with Bridge being an excellent editor.

    FCPX handles more than that?

    oh…render farm.

I thought perhaps “cluster” was a shortened version of a normally two word expression which is usually used in the vernacular to indicate sub-adequate circumstances exacerbated by incompetent corrective measures…
