Hi Mike,

This does sound like a bug to me… I might ask the IT people to allow you to venture out long enough to do the updates that the system is due for if there are any first.

The only other workaround I can think of might be to take the illustrator files and make 3-3 layer files instead of one 9 layer file? It’s more work up front with a slight reduction in aggravation later…unless you need to revise the graphics of course (sigh).

Is it the number of layers?…or the complexity? Is there a common thread you can see in the layers that seem to go AWOL?

I got an email from HQ letting me know that that machine was running FCP (for any of you who feel that AJA and other manufacturers ignore these forums)…

I could have sworn I looked at the interface and it was Adobe. My mistake. (for those of us who like our tools but don’t make them a religion, the UI for FCP and PPro are far more similar than not…and I apparently am due for an optometrist visit…)

So…please pardon me on that one. My mistake entirely.

Also in all the pipeline explanation, I forgot to get a plug in there for the newest Kona drivers that have advanced substantially in the ability of a Kona sequence to benefit from CUDA performance augmentation.

So Tom…I think you may be headed for a far better experience than you originally thought!

Since the IOhd is a ProRes hardware implementation, I’d be a little surprised if it would ever be made to work with something other than FCP.

The software requirements include FCP2 or later so I’m guessing the hardware looks for that on the host system.

The ioExpress works with PPro…that is format/codec agnostic.

There is an anti-copy protocol inside of consumer HDMI outputs so that consumers can’t make perfect digital copies.

If it was your content that was being protected from theft, I think you’d find this system far from “stupid”.

As Todd said, frame size, pixel aspect, and frame rate are the only things a sequence in Premiere Pro really cares about. The presets are in there so people don’t have to set it all up themselves.

1920x1080p23.976 will work for any format with that framesize regardless of codec… If your graphics are vastly different sizes than that and you’re scaling them, you may notice that, but your graphics created at that frame size will be great.

Since Premiere Pro doesn’t have to create that “master output clip” like FCP does…it doesn’t matter what you want to send it out to as the Media Encoder just reads the sequence (you can make a master clip for archival if you choose to…you just don’t HAVE to…).

That’s kind of the point with Adobe…the integration cuts the extra interim steps necessary to get from edit to output.

So…make the sequence the right size and rate and off you go… I used to give all my colleagues who use FCP a hard time that I mix formats constantly and haven’t seen a “render” frame in 10 years.
