The power of AE is based on rendering frames of pixels with no real playback clock, etc…an NLE has to playback at framerate and maintain a signal structure for monitor output, etc…
I think you’ll find that AE is a poor NLE and PPro is nowhere near the compositing/GFX program that AE is…because it’s simply not possible to serve both functions well. Any NLE that makes the claim that they have the capabilities of AE with the responsiveness of an NLE has been historically simply lying through their teeth in my experience.

I do a considerable amount of work on my laptop, which is a P4, 3.2 with 2 Gigs and a RAID 0 C drive…not far off the specs you are using. It’s not the fastest thing ever, but I’ve not had any runnability issues with it.
On the old way of doing titles…if you had made some change to a title file without re-saving it manually, you would have lost the work. Titles had to be saved by command under the old system where they were separate files. Under the new system, if the project is set to auto-save, title changes made up to that point are saved.
So basically, in the scenario of an unsaved title and a crash, you would have lost your work then too…and had no option, even with auto-save on, to salvage it. The new way seems better for your circumstances from my perspective.

RGB and Y’,Pb,Pr are two different signal types. The breakout box on the FX540 only outputs Y’,Pb,Pr.
If the monitor has true RGB inputs…for use from a DVD player for example, the signal will never display properly. If the monitor has component video signal input, sometimes labeled as Y, Pb, Pr or Y, R-Y, B-Y, then the signal should work and you may have a cable crossed to cause this issue…

When you crash, do you use an auto save project to start working again?
Is auto-save turned on?
I haven’t really seen any crashing issues with the titler, (and I’ve had a couple of projects with literally 100+ titles), but every system can be different.
I have my auto-save set for 5 minutes and on the occasional crash (usually caused by constantly changing hardware/software configuration), the auto save version of the project allows me to pick up nearly where I left off.

This is true, and a trial version is available. The CineForm codec is second to none for image quality vs. data rate in my opinion and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solution of that type (and do when I attend tradeshows on CineForm’s behalf from time to time…with my AJA card carrying the video/audio I/O responsibilities of course). It works with the LH and as David says you can work on projects with CineForm or AJA project settings on the same system.

Overall, the Quadro series of display boards have some pretty substantial capabilities. Unfortunately a LOT of these are tough to see unless you get a chance to use one or you really love research…
Of course one obvious advantage is the component video out feature of boards like the FX540 (currently in the process of being replaced by the FX560) and the FX1500, available with a “Video Edition” option.
Open GL acceleration is much more application-sensitive in the professional boards as well, with settings for Maya, Cinema 4d, After Effects, etc, etc…
Another advantage is the ability to handle user clip planes more effectively. You may have experienced the issue when moving one window on top of another window and waiting for the area previously occupied by the window to refresh and “fill in”. Hardware handling of clip planes (Quadro family handles up to eight simultaneously I believe), makes these refreshes not even really necessary as the full window below was there the whole time and is revealed the instant the upper window is moved.
There are other advantages in how many pixels and texels per second can be processed, etc., but those conversations would have to specify two particular boards to compare…suffice it to say that you usually get what you pay for…unless you are referring to the Quadro FX1500 (soon-to-be or JUST recently available), which is incredibly inexpensive for what it does.

Hmmm…I see.
It seems to work if you change the playback settings under “Render Color Space” to “RGB” instead of “YUV/RGB” which was set in mine by default…
I know that AJA does monitor this board so the fact that it seems verified will definitely not fall on deaf ears, rest assured.
See if this workaround solves the issue…at least for the moment.

I wouldn’t waste my time with this guy’s requests for any stock anything that you own, purchased or created not on the clock for this edit, as Ron states.
Once your invoice is paid and the check clears…AND NOT BEFORE…I’d give him the data including the PPro project that will look for the third party plugs everytime the thing is launched on a system without them (I hope it’s Sapphire, or something nice and juicy that will be costly…)
This guy should also NOT be offered a discount. This will just continue if you do. It sounds like you’ve probably set the tone and pacing for the edit and some cheapo guy can just color by number most likely…
