Ah…got it. No problem.
On the project export…I’ve not tried the AAF export function where the beginning media is AVI. FCP deals with QuickTime of course and that would be the one thing I’d wonder about… The administrative files (project, bins, etc) should be pretty straight forward…

OK…I’ll supply an alternate viewpoint.
LLC’s and LLP’s (Limited Liability Company and Partnership) aren’t nearly as tested in litigation as formal corporations are…and with the prevailing winds of business misconduct building over the last 15 years to the recent high profile, absurd occurences we’ve seen of late, jurys have, in increasingly frequent cases, “pierced” the corporate umbrella to assess deeper damages than the “isolated” business entity (usually a C-Corp…even more secure than an S-Corp in this sense) is capable of paying.
The tax burden strategy is certainly valid to the extent you can convert payroll to dividend income…and the Corporation can hang on to capital that you want to spend next year and not pay it through… But in most cases business owners are finding that taking the income and paying the tax and loaning the money back to the corporation for interest is also a good way to build non-payroll income.
(All of this is USA law BTW…your country may vary) However the FICA tax will be paid one way or the other…whether you pay it as a sole proprietor and pay both parts, or you pay half withheld on your paycheck and the corporation pays the other part, the money has to be made and it’s money you don’t get to keep.
So…you’re left with the biggest advantage to organizing under a formal C or S-Corp or LLC or LLP being a liability shield. Since that may or may not work depending on what ends up happening, you increase the chance of the legal barrier staying put if the business is heavily liability insured, so the business has means of making reparations should damage or injury causing legal exposure occur.
…the idea that you can create a separate company, keep it poor, and close it down if bad things happen and keep the Mercedes is becoming less and less true as jurys are staffed with laid off blue collar workers and citizen investors who have lost their life savings to Enron, or WorldCom, or Arthur Anderson…or…

You should probably ask them what system they’re outputting from and what format that is…MPEG is typical for digital transmission.
If you can get the specs up front for what sort of file specs they need, you could use ProCoder or some other software you own to compress the file and really scrutinize the quality to the extent you can.

Whoa…Pat…easy boy.
The dual-system sound thing is definitely a hurdle, but I haven’t heard of anyone who can trim media in the same situation without “baking” the sync timelines with an export of the combined clips, duplicating media.
And that option is available to any current user of PPro right now…
I’m sure someone must have a solution for this on some other editing product, but no one has pointed it out to me.
…I don’t get the Audition move either, frankly…but getting started on an “everything Adobe does is stupid” rant doesn’t help identify any issues or solve them. Adobe knows this thread is here, they don’t operate in a vacuum.

I’d have to agree with Tim pretty much right down the line.
A rental or hire business needs something that a potential customer can’t afford to own. In editing these days, the ‘editor’ is often that commodity as the equipment is, as Tim points out, affordable to almost anyone now.
I use Premiere Pro but when people rent out my suite, they rent it with my butt in the chair, operating the system and creating value with the combination of the hardware/software and my expertise (no laughing now…).
Earlier this year, I edited and delivered an HD project shot on Sony HDV, and edited on a beefy laptop with PPro/CineForm…the editing just isn’t the purchase hurdle it used to be.
As a rental business, I wonder if your fellow wedding/event guys might have more need for an extra camcorder in certain situations and it might make sense to rent one when needed instead of invest in one…or a jib, or something of that nature?

I’ve been told that it should work attached to the FireWire port of an HDX 900, but apparently it hasn’t been tested.

The issue will be I/O as SD and HD cameras have quite a variety of output options…composite/component analog…SDI/HDSDI….FireWire…
I find Serious Magic’s DV Rack HD to work very well, but I need to carry an analog>FW box (ADVC 100) to feed analog SD signals into it and I can only feed DVCProHD P2 or HDV into it for HD signals.
As far as conventional self-contained scopes go…the digital models can set you back anywhere from 8-18,000.00 USD.

The CCD still has better dynamic range overall due to the sensor sites being small on a CMOS sensor…
I think it’s still best to try to take cameras for a test drive…it’s the only way to see if you like what you see. we’re all looking for different attributes.
i think that CMOS is the future, but thanks to them coming on strong, capable CCDs are reasonably priced.
