Ron- your read speeds should be twice that, mine are over double FW800, it’s just the write which has issues for me- but something I expect Sonnet to sort or I too will be complaining- I’m going to email them tomorrow about it.

Sonnet really needs to step up their game here- the write speed issues it faces across the board needs to be addressed, it’s been like this for too long now and in terms of write speed, there’s no point in having one- FireWire 800 is actually often better at the moment. I don’t know if it’s a driver update or something they need to get Apple to do, but I’m thinking I return it saying it doesn’t do what it says on the tin and get a LaCie…. they pretty much have until that LaCie adapter starts selling in the Uk before I kick off.

Really? In the UK I’m pretty sure it’s 25p or 50i which equates to 25 images per second, and in the US it’s 30P or 60i, which are not 60 images per second…I didn’t think broadcast was 60p normally…. but I could be wrong.

EDIT- I suspect I AM wrong because Bret you are far more experienced than I am, so hopefully that didn’t come across as arrogant or anything, it was a genuine question 🙂

Especially round the 23 second mark- but yeah if anyone’s even seen the opening titles it should be clear, the sort of ‘dust in front of camera’ effect- it’s hard to tell if its composited digitally or not, Im pretty sure it is though 🙂

Sorry, 400MB?! Seriously? It’s probably telling you that because 400MB is NOTHING on the OS drive. Delete some stuff! Whats the capacity of that harddrive? You shouldn’t drop below 10% of that. Have you emptied your trash? Is your download folder filled with useless DMGs? Delete them all!

Regarding your FCP issue- it may be because MacKeeper deleted some odd cache files or something which FCP needs. I know the FCP Studio can all be a little temperamental when it comes to odd files- I always exclude all of them from any kind of system clean.

As long as the brand, speed, cache and capacity are the same, it should be fine in theory. It’s normally fine anyway, but sometimes not- for example WD Black and Green drives; I think you can get them the same spec (ie cache and ALLEGED speed) but the green drives work very differently, and even though they WILL RAID together, they are pretty unreliable when you do (ie takes ages to get started etc). But you should be fine 🙂

Yes it does, even if theyre the same size, different drives have different ways of working and different levels of cache etc- it may be fine but may go VERY slow. I would get 3 of the same drive.

Yes I am sure, I own two 2TB G-RAIDS, neither of which are mini l. The utility allows me to set the RAID “mode” of them between 0 and 1. As it happens i have them both on 0 but the option is definitely there, i can upload screenshots if necessary.

I have however realised I must e wrong about the RAID5 thing on the bigger G-RAIDS because even though they are larger capacity, they are still only 2 HDDs inside so RAID5 wouldn’t be possible. (At least I think that last bit is right, please someone correct me if the larger cap. gRaids use more than 2 drives! I’m on my phone and don’t have time to double check, but can’t imagine that being the case :D)
