Has Anyone Used MacKeeper Software

I had a quick peek, it doesn’t look like itd do any harm but it also looks pretty pointless. A lot of mac applications for this kind of thing are sold but the mac does most of it anyway. There are reasons Apple haven’t implemented certain things, and these applications take mOney from the doubt that this causes in people who don’t know why.
Is there something you want your mac to do which it isn’t/ are you having any issues?

Sounds very reasonable. I was enticed by the notion of purging old useless documents and thus increasing speed. But it makes sense that this software is possibly of little value.

I would say that as long as you have over (roughly) 10 percent of your macs HDD free, you should be fine, and these tools make very little difference, certainly not any which are perceptible normally (ive used many different tools). However, it’s also probably good to back up the stuff you KNOW you need and ruthlessly reinstall the operating system after a complete wipe, prob twice every 3 years ish? Just keeps that sense of knowing where everything is, and makes you get into good habits (because if you think you may want to wipe it youll keep in the habit of staying organised). Its also cathartic to do this every now and again!

I just installed MacKeeper yesterday. I installed it because lately when I turn on my computer (OSX 10.6.8) it says the startup disk is full, even though there are 400 MB of free space on it. Now FCP (6.0.6) will not open. I just tried reinstalling it and made matters even worse. I have called MacKeeper (no answer) and emailed and gotten no help so far. The other programs like Motion and Soundtrack all appear to be working.

Sorry, 400MB?! Seriously? It’s probably telling you that because 400MB is NOTHING on the OS drive. Delete some stuff! Whats the capacity of that harddrive? You shouldn’t drop below 10% of that. Have you emptied your trash? Is your download folder filled with useless DMGs? Delete them all!

Regarding your FCP issue- it may be because MacKeeper deleted some odd cache files or something which FCP needs. I know the FCP Studio can all be a little temperamental when it comes to odd files- I always exclude all of them from any kind of system clean.

Haha, in that case I apologetically retract my snarky response. Hmmmm, in that case it could mean a number of things- have you done the standard, disk permissions repair etc?

I just did the disk repair you recommended. I found directions for a complete uninstall of MacKeeper, then did the following (directions from MacKeeper support):

1. Control click the Motion App and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu.
2. Go to the Frameworks/Ozone.framework/ folder.
3. Delete the file called “Ozone”.
4. Go to the Frameworks/Ozone.framework/Versions/A/ folder. Pressing Alt and Command keys together than click and drag the file “Ozone” to the “Frameworks/Ozone.framework/” folder, creating an alias from the original Ozone file.
5. Open the Final Cut and I hope it works to you.

Final Cut is up and running again. I have not checked my other programs, but I feel hopeful. Thanks you. Holly
