Just to jump in here, but is there a “batch” way of doing this? Because I have gigs of mp4 hd material I just started working with and I don’t have the money to buy the software from calibratedx :s also don’t you lose quality when transcoding in mpeg streamclip?

By DV tape do you mean mini DV tape? Because recording onto a mini DV tape is simple, and I’m unaware of many schools who work in ‘full’ DV tapes…

A search would have possiblyanswered this question, but yes; basically any exporting as a quictime movie would lose quality, although you don’t if you export as is already mentioned here: https://mobi.creativecow.net/readpost/8/1085793 (the “mobi” in that URL is cos I’m typing on an iPhone but it should still work):

but I don’t understand why you need to export the clips to rename them? Just rename them in the browser and right click and there is an option like “rename>file to match clip”. You can select multiple clips and use that option.

That’s cool cheers- I’m aware the canvas in inaccurate but i meant after I had put it through compressor, and before it WAS on a broadcast monitor :S Although still interlacing horribly- Ive put it through again though and it seems to be better now, but oddly the only difference is because the first time I burnt it with toast (for speed) rather than DVD studio pro- does DVD studio have some better encoding thing I’m unaware of? (Which it shouldn’t because DVD mpeg is surely the same no matter where its from, also it was ALREADY converted to DVD MPEG by compressor so how on earth could that make a difference:S?

Arent projectors progressive though? Also I just tried not de-interlacing and converting using the compressor preset and it still looks horribly interlaced on my computer- I know computers are progressive scan but ive seen stuff look MUCH better than that, the lines are ridiculously obvious. What should I do?

Trashing preference files is usually a less than good idea unless you understand what they relate to, but anyway it could be hopefully one of 2 things- either right click the iDVD icon in te dock and see if the “open at login” menu option is ticked. If so then uncheck it. If that’s Not the case look in your system preferences, ithink it’s under ”accounts’, and there is a “login items” tab in there- if iDVD is in there then remove it from the list 🙂

if none of that’s the case let me know and i’ll do some
more thinking.

Yeah sorry, the only reason I bough that up was because his above question says’ why use compressor?’ so my answer is: “to save £1249 (ish)” heheh 😀

But yeah fair enough, if you have the funds then I’m sure even MXO(1) would be a very useful thing to have!

Sorry I don’t understand here- is the MXO2 like a physical thing? Whereas compressor is software? If so surely that’s why people choos compressor, cos it’s cheaper not to buy something else?

I know it’s a bore, but a way to get round this I’ve found (because you only are using one audion track?) is by making the multiclip out of the video track and unlinking it from the audio- then you can drag the multiclip ontothe timeline and sync it with a cut or marker you put in on the audio (ie, the clapper). I knowits a pain, I think final cut just has these litte nigglys from time to time- I do seem to remember that kind of thing happens less inFCP7 though…

There was also a previous thread mentioning a programme called “pluraleyes”, which auto syncs audio for you- so that may make life faster?
