March 20, 2012 at 4:19 am in reply to: Premier error – seems to be audio related?First, I followed some advice on the Adobe boards and made all of the media in a new project offline. I trashed all of my cash/preview files. Then I (painstakingly) went through and reconnected clip by clip until I figured out which ones were causing the error.
Here’s the Adobe thread: https://forums.adobe.com/message/3775353
It turned out any time I tried to reconnect the .wav files (from a field audio recorder) used in my Merged Clips the error reoccurred. I was about to give up for the night when I decided to export an EDL and import it into another new project. When I relinked the EDL it separated my merged clips into their respective video and audio files within the timeline. Although the Merged Clips were essentially “broken” all of the audio and video were in sync (def better than starting over).
This has happened to me twice while working with Canon 5D footage linked to .wav files as Merged Clips. I have had numerous problems working with Merged Clips over the last few months (one track of audio randomly disappearing, audio not exporting through to OMFs, etc.). I would suggest that you LINK audio and video files in Premiere Pro instead of making Merged Clips from your assets. If you don’t want to Link your files I would sync everything and export a master file. It’s not worth the hassle and anguish that comes along with Merged Clips.
I would also suggest that if you receive a similar error during your edit that you cut ties with your project ASAP. Your project file is essentially terminal.
*Oh, one more thing while I’m piling on the hate for Merged Clips. When you merge video to a stereo audio file Premiere turns your L and R channels into mono tracks.

I can buy that it’s audio related since I have a ton of merged clips (video combined with synced audio).

Glad to hear you have experience collaboratively working cross platform. I don’t currently have any AVID software in the shop so I have not had the opportunity to (attempt to) attach it to our storage system. I’m planning on downloading the 30 day free trial and doing some tests.

I been having this problem since day one with PP. I can’t seem to load any “low end” sources into the Source monitor with any consistency. Low res .flv files (iStock watermarked) and stills other then .PSDs load into the source monitor but do not display – that is the entire monitor is black. However, I can insert the media into the timeline from the black source window. So the media definitely gets loaded into the source monitor but fails to display properly. When I trash my prefs the first couple of clips work fine but then it’s all black very quickly. Toggling back and forth from the timeline back to the source monitor works a very small amount of time.
Am I missing something here? Is there a “please display stills and all video in the source window” check box I’m missing?
Any help is much appreciated.

Glenn,
I was finally able to get a scratch VO in using my current setup. However, I was not able to use the Voice Over tool. I set my Blackmagic input settings in System Preferences to Composite Video (Y In) & Analog XLR Audio. Then I created a new sequence using Blackmagic DV (generic) settings – although any Blackmagic preset works. Next I opened the Capture window, set the device control to None, Capture Settings to Blackmagic Capture with 2 channels of audio (no option for just one channel). When I press record I’m unable to see any audio levels in the capture widow (although I just watch the Mackie board’s meters) but they do, in fact, record. So, it’s not as elegant as the Voice Over tool but it gets the job done. Thanks for sharing your experience – that’s what tipped me off to using the generic capture window instead of the VO tool.
Have a good one.

I figured out the solution.
I was only searching the “Application” menu within the keyboard shortcuts panel. The path to correct this was: Keyboard Shortcuts – Panels – Timeline Panel – and then disablling “Show Next Screen” and “Show Previous Screen.” Which shared the “Up” and “Down” key mapping.

I’m battling my keyboard shortcut setup right now as well – same issue with the next/prev edit thing.
I’m attempting to learn as many of the PP default shortcuts as possible. However, one shortcut that I really have to change is the next/previous edit buttons. They default map to Page Up/Down. I created a custom layout and mapped the keys to the Up/Down arrows (as in FCP7). When I click in the program monitor the shortcuts work fine. However, clicking in an active timeline (Sequence window) and toggling the Up/Down arrow results in scrolling the timeline.
The strange thing is that when I load the FCP7 default keyboard in PP I can activate the timeline and use the remapped Next/Prev edit buttons fine. This makes me think that somehow I need to disable to up and down arrows for scrolling in the timeline. I searched all through the custom keyboard settings and couldn’t find anything.
Any solutions out there? Clearly, Adobe figured it out and worked it into the FCP7 Layout Preset. What am I missing in my custom layout?
Thanks,
