  • Evandor,
Any luck sorting this out? I seem to have the exact same symptoms. I’ll keep plugging away but let me know how you resolved the issue.

I’ve often had this problem with my text. I’ve found that the culprit is usually the Text Tracking behavior. The way I usually fix this is to remove the behavior and add a basic Grow/Shrink behavior instead. Just pull out the sides (left and right) on the HUD and you’ve got stable text tracking.

From my experience the best way to learn is trial by fire. I’ve learned almost everything I know by having a demanding client sitting behind me. That client will ask you to do things you have no idea how to do. When you come through for them in the clutch there’s no way you’re going to forget that technique. I’ve done the training books and online tutorials (and they’re great for helping with general knowledge and some cool techniques) but there’s simply no substitute for the real thing.

Try recording some cool TV commercials. Then pick some effect or transition, etc.. that you liked and give yourself an hour or two to try and match it. Then go in and see what else you can add or change to make it more interesting/functional. I’ve built up quite a “library” using this method. Clients love it when they can see 5-10 pre-made concepts.

This site always inspires me to get better: https://www.watchthetitles.com/

  • Not a bad start. Nice work. It does looks like you’ve got a little bit of overlap. If you’re seeing distortion at high speeds it could be a bunch of things. If you’re still in Motion (when the distorting occurs) make sure you create a RAM Preview (Command + R) before critiquing.

For the logo you may have been zoomed into your canvas when you set your initial letter positions. Click in the canvas window and then press Shift + Z. This will automatically fit your canvas in your window. You can also click in the canvas and type Command & + or Command & – to zoom in or out. I believe these shortcuts work throughout all FCP Studio software.

I’ve used it a couple of times over the years with the drop zones…usually to show a rotating news bug.

October 23, 2007 at 3:58 am in reply to: Applying an effect to all clips in FCP

BTW you can access attributes of a nest or subclip by double clicking the clip in the timeline while holding option and shift at the same time.

As was said I would just apply the filter to one clip. Then copy the clip (Apple + C). Next, highlight the rest of the clips and paste the attributes you desire (in this case the filters) (option + V).

Have you tried trashing your preferences? You might want to trash your render files (if there are any). Highlight the clips or the nest and press control b to take it offline and then control b to bring it back. Many times this clears any sticky render files or errors linked to the clip.

To rip songs off of an audio cd just use itunes. Go to the preferences then to the advanced tab. Select the destination for your ripped files and make sure your “importing” options are set to .aiff…drag and drop in FCP – no rendering required.
