This effect requires 2 specific function of PI3 (byebye PI:SE), Super Emitter and Get color from background.

I also don’t own AfterFX, but trace FX is somewhat I would like to avoid in PI. Since PI is merely a spite-base particle system SW. Making trace FX = generate a massive amount of particles to fill the trace area. Well, practically you don’t really need that much particles but this comes another problem that: no graphic will be supposed to draw between frame and frame (non-existent frame) in PI. If you make the particle move very fast and switch on the motion blur or “Don’t erase” function. There’s still empty space in the motion trail because that empty space occured on “illegal” frame. It may end up that you better draw the trace animation manually in Photoshop would be more satified.

A picture (PI3 project file) worth than thousand words. But it only works if the shot is steady. Otherwise you’re not in luck. Anyway, draw the glow map youself in Photoshop-type SW (mine is Paint Shop Pro). And remember to change the canvas in 128/256/512/etc. pixel to avoid the resizing during the shape import into PI3. (Although you can alter the size with non-aspect ratio.)

Since PI has no electricity pattern generator. The least thing you should do to be finding the reference of real lightning graphic you want. And draw the similar but fractal animated textures yourself. If the libraries you downloaded do not fulfill your requirement.

My experience tells me to delete the emitter library that currently appplied by PI3.

Use non-intense red particle and “don’t erase” function (Particle Illusion 3). Make the emitter just simply shoot the ball sharp particle downward.

Since you have not stated anything, I think it’s my best to provide my E-mail address: ifurkend@hotmail.com

To be exact, I deleted the shape in the “emitter properties in library”(right section) and caused the problem. I try again and this time I delete the shape in “emitter properties” of individual emitter (left section), and no error happened, the library emitter simply missed that texture in preview.

I created a thunder ball project with a loose electric texture. I don’t satisfy with it now, but I think it may help to bring out your concept.
