Ok, I think it is clear now. Normally when I use the pipet, I do not first enter a value. But if you like to do that, you have to press ENTER after adding a value. Then using the pipet will not set the value back to zero.

When you start Movie Studio, does it normally open the last project you were working on? In that case you can try moving this project to another folder. Then open Movie Studio again. You will get an error message stating that Movie Studio can not find the project. Just tell Movie Studio to ignore it.
If Movie Studio now opens fine, you know that you just have a problem in your last project.

Ofcourse photoshop is a superior program. And since version CS3 is has the ability to work with video. This has even been improved in CS4. However, is it not a lot of work to adjust this interview frame by frame in photoshop. Or do you use special ACTIONS to do this job for you?

For as far as I know, the secondary color correction is not available in the Vegas Movie Studio (Platinum). So I tried a different way and got nearly the same result as you: just duplicated the track, applied the multiply mode (which I think is present in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and increased gamma in the upper track.

David, I think you misunderstood the point. The question was not how you can increase the resolution of a picture. That would ofcourse not be done with smart objects.
But the question was how to work easily with large files. And therefore I suggested the smart object. So that Milton can do all the effects on low sized images and at the end bring everything back to the final output size. (and this is something complete different from increasing the resolution of original footage).
