Mpeg Files – Green , cut short…
Hi. I just used the Record function in VLC player while watchin a DVD to collect a bunch of clips.
However: When I try to drag them into Vegas 9, something happens They drag in fine, as if they are recognized, but they are cut short. Like, less-than-a-second short. And all frames are rendered as solid-green EXCEPT for 2-3 frames each clip. I thought maybe I didn’t record correctly, but watching them in Windows Media Player, I can see that they captured just fine. I don’t want to have to convert 50 clips one-by-one into a different format to test if they work.
Anyone encounter this problem, or have any tips on how to fix it?Thanks

In addition, now when I try to make a new project with no audio/video tracks there, I get the message: “None of the files dropped in Vegas Pro could be opened”Strange considering I thought Vegas had mpeg support. Not sure what type it is, Windows just tells me “.mpg”

Why are you capturing a DVD with VLC? Why not just import it into Vegas with File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc and then extract out the parts that you want and discard the rest?

John: I had no idea such a feature was available. Regardless, I don’t feel like going through the 2-hour movie again to collect these 30 or so clips…. I found converting one of the clips to AVI works just fine. I don’t know what it is about this format that Vegas is being picky about. Then again, Vegas never has worked smoothly in my years with it :/

Look at the GSpot output in your picture under Container (on the left). While VLC named it .mpg the container is DVD “VOB” format which is a delivery format for DVD’s and not an editing format. (essentially VLC just renamed the VOB file to MPG which is not very helpful)
I would continue to convert them to AVI to make editing easier.

Yes, VOB allows a whole lot more than just MPEG2 video and you are correct, the problem is that there are other things that are allowed in a VOB file that Vegas is not expecting to find in an MPG file (AC3 audio too).

Seems converting to .avi was my only option anyhow. Works now!
