I forgot one which might be usefull to you: not a real plug-in but a set of presets from VASST: REELPAK Filmlooks. But you need to have either Ultimate S or Production assistant to be able to run the Reelpaks.

Yes you are right. Vegas Movie Studio serial number has four strings, just as the serial number for DVD Architect Studio. But I have received a third serial number when I purchased Movie Studio. This one has three strings and is used to unlock the NewBlue VideoFX MSP. You don’t have this one?
Which version of Movie Studio 8 do you have?

I’m not sure whether I understand whatyou are doing. But if I understand your question well, I would say that you can simply add a new track (In Vegas Pro you have an unlimited number of tracks) or you start a new project and import the intro into the new project as a nested file

If you obtained the free New Blue Effects with Movie Studio v8, you can download the effects here:

https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/link?id=3163.1In both case you will need the activation key that you have obtained from SonyCC. And most likely (but I’m not sure) you will need to install your version of Movie Studio again to be able to use these NewBlue effects in Vegas Pro 9.

With the OVERLAP PREVIOUS EVENT function of Excalibur (a script package for Vegas Pro) you can extend clips on both sides with the amount of frames you select.

Boris RED 5 works under Vegas 64bits. It will be released somewhere between tomorrow and 30 September.
Creative Ease from Pixelan also works as plugin in Vegas 64 bits.

Depending on the shape you need for your mask, you might be able to get the results you want with the Cookie Cutter FX

There are various simple solutions for this problem. You could add an extra videotrack between the track with the video and the track with the pictures and drag a black solid media generator at this new track below the pictures.
Or you could keyframe the visibility of the videotrack. (This last thing has become very easy in Vegas 9 pro: just add a video envelop for composite level to the track with the video, make a selection of the part you want to make invisible and drag the envelope down to zero %. No need to make first four points on the envelope).
Another option is to make the pictures the same size as your video.Theo
