And to make the story complete: there is a third way to create a “quick and easy” Ken Burns effect for a slideshow in Pro 10:

What is the best way to learn how to script in AE? I am a MAYA TD but it seems AE is 10 times harder than scripting in Maya. Do you have any resources that you recommend?

You can install Vegas pro 10 while keeping Vegas pro 9. So you can finish your weddings in Vegas 9 and at the same time play a bit with Vegas 10.

You can add a crossfade automaticly upon adding files to the timeline. Then, the crossfade will remain after ripple edit.
