“The problem is that you must do CUSTOM work for each DVD, but only charge a “generic” price to make it affordable.
I also suggest the “all-on-one” DVD with chapter markers.
Each student will have MORE on his DVD (“added value”) and you don’t have to do as much “Custom work’ for the same amount of income per DVD.

““Crossing the line,” “dutch angles,” odd lighting choices… can all be tools for setting a specific tone or mood.
If done unintentionally, they can be very destructive to the intended mood… even if the viewer doesn’t exactly know why.

I’m not sure that it can be “fixed” or even needs to be.
Video “motion” can exhibit artifacts due to the SPEED and KIND of move you are making.
Changing the speed or direction of an effect can alter the visual artifacts.If there is flicker WITHIN a freeze-frame still, that can be eliminated with a de-interlace or flicker filter.
OTOH, if the clients are viewing only a computer screen, that’s not usually the best way to judge video effects.

Are you viewing the moves on an external video monitor after rendering?

This happens on all of my “flash-across” style effects, regardless of where I got them.
It does bother me a bit that it is so hot.
If you’re worried about it passing quality control somewhere, you might nest the section with the effect in it and add the “broadcast safe” to the nest.

“There’s a big difference in “having” a clip and “shooting” a clip for this purpose.
If I wanted to create this scene, I’d make sure to shoot it with the effect in mind.

Then, it would be very quick and easy to accomplish using just two video layers (as Uli said) in FCP.

There is “SimpleVideoOut” a small app that will play a QT movie directly out from the Mac via FireWire.
It can be recorded to DV tape WITHOUT FCP,
