True, that is why the Boris effects and the Sapphire effects are better when you use their keys as you can then apply their effects to the key.

Here’s another option.
V3 keying material with spectramatte dialed, set to show alpha, and matte key nested on top
V2 Keying material with Sapphire transitions
V1 BG layerSetting the Spectramatte to “show alpha” would effectively give you a matte that will key the V2 layer over the V1 layer. The Matte Key effect nested on top does the rest. You can then treat V2 to your hearts content and it will only come through where V3’s matte is.

Strobe like could be several things.
The field reversal, as mentioned, is one thing to check. This will show up as irregular diagonal lines that is exacerbated by movement.
Another is whether Avid is resizing the shot. If the original is DV and you are in a NTSC project, Avid will actually resize the shot from 480 vertical lines to 486 vertical lines… and the resizing sucks. This shows up as a couple of horizontal bands of funky video across the frame. If this is the case, select the maintain size option on import.
A funky strobing look can come into play when you get the wrong “A” frame removed from 30 to 24 footage and then going back to 30 causes “judder.” I doubt this could be your problem considering the workflow.

Okay, you have been given (or misunderstood) some bogus info.
You can convert from 30 to 24 in both a good and a bad way.
The good way involves some hardware like a Teranex box. This is similar to going from NTSC to PAL. It can be done well… or not so well.
It will never be perfect, but that is the nature of throwing way 6 frames per second and then, making up a new 6 frames when you go back to the 30 frame world that we in the US live in.
Go to the post houses you have been dealing with and tell the to give you a 24 frame master form your 30 frame tape.. (or file).

Number of issues here.
1: Avid will render where you tell it to in the “media creation” settting… unless you run out of space on that drive.
2: When it asks if you want to render to “effect source” drive (or something like that), it means the drive the original media is on that you are rendering from.
3: When it asks for a drive and you look at the available drive options in the window, the one in BOLD is not the drive that is selected, however it is the drive with the MOST space available at the time.

My response last night was to offer any producer a “written” estimate of any amount they chose that they could then take to this guy who has publicly said he will beat it.
So I could give then a complete finish with audio on paper for $10.00, and he would have to do it for $9.00. Or else he is a liar. :-0
