Is there any problems with digitizing a one hour BetacamSP tape in a Avid Media Composer
Posted by Eddie Lopez on November 22, 2008 at 1:05 amIs there any problems with digitizing a one hour BetacamSP tape in a Avid Media Composer? Or do I need to digitize in 30 minutes chunks?

November 22, 2008 at 4:44 amYou can capture an hour, but you need to go to your Capture settings and change the maximum time you can capture to 70 minutes. You may think, “70 minutes? Buy I have a 60 minute tape!” True, but hour tapes are often just a little over an hour, and 70 minutes should give you enough headroom to get the entire tape.

November 24, 2008 at 6:16 pmWill digitzing the entire 1 hour tape cause any problems? A friend of mine, told me that his editor insist it be done in chunks rather as a whole.
Thanks for reponses so far! 🙂

November 25, 2008 at 2:01 pmDepending on the health/stability of the system and it’s storage, there may be a problem with long captures. If the system is in good shape an hour (or two) should not be a problem.
Just set in and out points and capture. If there is a failure, the system will stop and let you save whatever was actually captured. Then just pick up the remainder. If you log and batch capture it will fail completely.
