October 3, 2012 at 12:23 am in reply to: REEL-TIME: Where to start to get real-time in Resolve?Christian,
besides 8bit video out, I have also got better performance in V9, if turning OFF optimizied dispay during playback/preview, it is somwhere in settings as far as I remember under video preview, or in general settings of project (if you don’t find it, I can look for it tomorow). Also Resolve V9.0.1/OSX 10.8.2 / newest CUDA driver got me some bit better performance. I think you should get realtime Prores for sure out of your MacPro!Color grade reel: https://vimeo.com/15480583

Sascha, you are using 4 x GTX580 in Cubix, do you use Linux version to get all 4 GPUs running? Mac version is limited on 3 GPUs only.

It has to do with name of the folder if you told Resolve to look for reel name from it. But you can anytime change the reel name of any clip or more at once (you will find it in right click menu, when you click on footage in media tab). When you r reel name is right than your EDL will conform right way.

What about this test:

September 24, 2012 at 9:08 pm in reply to: REEL-TIME: Where to start to get real-time in Resolve?Having a bit better MacPro 16GB RAM with quadro 4800 instead of quadro 4000, but faster RAID, I can work 2K DPX no problem (Prores422 running smoothly), but not with complex grading. few nodes, than proxy, after few more you need to render for realtime.
I am getting Cubix soon, but not sure what to put inside. Sashca would you consider GTX 580 still to be good buy in this time? Or to hold few months and wait better cards?Cheers!

Very good idea, to get CDL in Resolve9!
But your workflow could have some problems. When going reverse with log-vid-lin you can get bad results. from r709->logC you can not get the original latitude of the footage. Rec709 in VFX is just for preview, you render back in LogC/cineon/linear… what was your original footage that came in VFX.Color grade reel: https://vimeo.com/15480583

There is not much on web. I have created my self a legend, print it out and than work, work, work… you will memorize and get the muscle memory for whay you need most. More or less I use 1/3 of controls just because they are too compicated (2-3 keys combiantions), I get faster with tablet for some features, but also others with panel. It is just about your muscle/finger flow…
It would be great to be able to get option for mapping panels, just to get more out of it. I think it could be better, but on the other way, every where I go there is the same button doing same operation.

Open up EDL in text editor, as far as I remember each EDL has different “reel” names. Like 10s5s would be the reel for 10cube5sec EDL… somehow like this. So you need to load in your images with right “reel” name. After that, whan you get images in media pool you need to offset the timecode, from 01:00… to 00:00… or vice versa I don’t remember right now. Just see in EDL in text edit.
After your reel name and timeocde if colour patches are good, than EDL will work, but only for that version of EDL. Not with all (bacause of “reel” names!)

This error was common in V8 if you had a big project. for feature films if you didn’t split reels/sequences in different projcets it was “out of memory” all the time. But in V9, I am handleing same big projects and even bigger ones and there is no more problems!
Are you running V8 or V9?

Sometimes you can get nice results with doing a bit of over chrominance and than use next node to de-staturate only shadows (there is a preset “chroma dark” but it is too strong, just tweak the lum key and do not desat completely).
I think there is 100 ways of achieving similar looks, it is just a case of material and colorists habits. hope it helps.
