I might just be a little paranoid about this, but I have never played anyone else’s tapes in my camera (VX2100) and won’t unless they used a Sony Excellence tape. I have read too many posts about always using the SAME tape (brand/model) throughout the life of your camera. Has to do with the different types of lubrication the manufactures use. Cheaper cameras might not be that big of a deal (I don’t mind playing other tapes in my Digital-8), but with the cameras you mentioned I would be leary of playing different brands of tapes…that is unless you’ve already made a practice of using different types of tapes in your camera. Supposedly it can clog your heads very fast using different tapes.
When someone asks me to edit their tape I always request their camera to transfer it from unless the tape is a Sony Excellence (not necessarily better, just what I started using in the camera when it was new). In fact, this just happened to me a couple of weeks ago. When I saw that their tape was a maxell I asked for their camera. Transfer went fine…and had another satisfied customer. -

All you need to do is turn off the “Device Control” in the prefferences of VidCap. I capture video like this all the time with both my VX2100 and a cheap TRV460.

Vegas has surround sound capabilities. Vegas is one of the best audio editors around in my opinion.

I get about all my computer stuff from NewEgg. They are absolutely great if you have trouble with an item. Just my opinion, but for me I would stick with Intel chipsets on the motherboard. Corsair memory is very good. I have several sticks in my machines. I would definately go with 2 gig. You can buy them in “matched pairs” but they are a little more expensive. I bought two single 1 gig sticks and they work perfect, have for over three years.
The ppl are right too about the cooling. I’m just running a P4 2.8 w/HT and still have three extra case fans in my case…plus the duel fan PS. I also have HD cooler fans on each HD.
NewEgg had a sale on a Seagate (I think) 320G SATA HD…somewhere around $120. Might still be on sale. -
Since the system sounds are still working then it has to be something in the settings of either the sound card or software. Since you say that it stopped working on multiple programs, sounds to me like it must be sound card settings. You should have an icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen for audio settings. If not, look in control panel and open up the sound settings and see if you can find the problem there. Make sure the default playback device is pointing to your audio driver.

Try adding the Wave Hammer audio FX and choose the “Mastering for 16 bit” preset.

I have a Sony VX2100 and love the picture quality it gets. The low light performance of this camera is hard to beat.

I went from Ulead (nothing but problems) to Vegas and haven’t felt the need to even try anything else. Winrock is right…Vegas is probably one of the best audio editors out there. Unlimited tracks, good FX, very easy to edit and the list goes on. This is just icing on the Video cake.
