Holding down the ALT key and keying using the number pad on the right of the keyboard…release the ALT key after typing the numbers:

Do you have the “preview on external monitor” button engaged just above the preview window? If this is engaged you will only see a black preview when playing the timeline.

Since you have played it on the computer I assume you have some sort of DVD player software…WinDVD etc. Have you tried playing back the prepared folder instead of the actual DVD? You should be able to point to the prepared folder and play it directly from the HD instead of the DVD disc. See if it does the same thing while playing the prepared folder.

Yep, I’ve got two of them. Works great. I go S-video out to my external monitor for playback. There are both 4 pim and 6 pin firewire ports on it so you can go directly from your camera to computer.

Any family members or friends have one that you might be able to borrow? Would save you the expense of having to buy something.

As far as the Canopus products…they work great. I have been using the ACEDVio for three years now but mostly just for external monitoring. It will also do what you need to do but I usually just use my Sony handycam since it’s easy to hook up right on my desk. I just picked up another ACEDVio card on Ebay for $175…brand new opened box…and it works perfectly. All of the Sony digital camcorders I have had does have the pass thru function but the Panasonic PV-GS180 I just bought does not. I’m not sure why Panasonic left this feature out of their cameras since it’s such a handy feature to have.

If you have a camcorder with video pass thru just hook your VCR out to the A/V in on your camcorder and go firewire out of the camcorder to the computer. I’ve transferred lots of VHS tapes this way and always turns out fine. Your camcorder manual will usually tell you if you have the capability to do pass thru or not.

And Gary is correct…you will see even one frame. That’s why it might be best to place it on a track above your main video and lower the opacity.

You don’t really have to use the trimmer to do this. Just place the event on the timeline and drag either end to shorten up the event. You will need to zoom in once you make it fairly small so you can shorten it to one frame (or what ever length you want it). You might even try placing it on the track above your main video track and lower the opacity somewhat of the upper track. If you place your cursor on the event of the “flash” you can see the opacity level as you change it. If you split your main video track and insert your “flash” event you might hear a glitch in the audio since you will want to keep your main video and audio in sync.

Well after doing some experimenting I have found that for some reason the card reader that came with my SOYO mobo will not read this 512meg card. It will read a 32meg card I have though. So I installed the driver for an MMC/SD card reader that came with my Lowrance GPS unit and low and behold it reads the 512meg card just fine when plugged into a USB port. I guess the onboard card reader on the SOYO mobo must have a size limit on cards.
