No future support for SL with Duel reader??? It sucks!
Actually I never did research for the future plans for this adapter on SL because it was evident for me that there will be soon.

– Snow Leopard had some issues with the FW ports but now on 10.6.2 everything seems to be fine.
– FCS 3 runs pretty well without any problem so far

The clips in the viewer of XDcam transfer software show up as proxies not full res.You can set in/out points there which part of a certain clip want to capture to your computer.Here you work with proxies.After you hit import it starts capturing the XDcam files to the folder you set for them (from omf/mxf to mov files).The .mov files are full res files which you can directly use in FCP.All you have to do is to import them when you are in FCP.
If the clips come in as proxies (.mov files) after you hit import in XDcam transfer, make sure everything is set correct in your preferences and import options.It should then work.

Just put the clip into your timeline and FCP will prompt the best settings for this.
or
First pick the DV50 -NTSC Anamorphic preset then change the timeline settings to match this below :
Frame size : 720×480 NTSC DV 3:2
Pixel Aspect Ratio : NTSC – CCIR601/DV… / Anamorphic
Field Dominance : Lower
Editing Timebase : 30QT video settings
Compressor : DVCPRO50 – NTSC
or if you have a Matrox box you can pick teh Matrox DVCPRO50 – NTSC Anamorphic settings then match the editing timebase to 30.
or even though I never tried but AppleProRes could be an option as well.This codec is cool but in this case you loose some quality of your native files.But it might be faster to render.Maybe it’s worth a try.
The first 3 work for sure.

FCP should basically give you the option to name the reel before you start capturing in its “Capture Tool”.
If it doesn’t work for you , you can give a new reel name to the different tapes.
Go to the bin after you captured a tape and there roll the columns to the reel – left click then it activates and you can rename it.There will be a warning message that changing the reel name can cause some timing problems but in this case it won’t matter since it will be a brand new capture.If you can’t find the reel column just right click on the top of the columns and pick reel from the rolldown list.
Just make sure that you never name them the same.Avid warns you specifically not to do it but FCP has only a common warning for this.If you did by mistake, close the project and don’t save it then reimport the captured file from your hard drive and give it a proper reel name.Tamas Erdosi / http://www.tamaserdosi.eu

– The drive where you want to export the OMF file isn’t FAT-32?My experience with OMF export that in/out points are ignored when you export OMF.FCP exports the whole sequence.

So if it’s always white, it’s not QT itself for sure.I guess, the first thing you have tried to clean and restore FCP preferences.I don’t think it helps it should be some weird problem during FCP upgrade.
My opinion is still some codec defection within FCP when it wants to connect to QT something doesn’t work to make the video properly.I never experienced it FCP but sevearl times in Avid.If you want to import some unsupported codec into Avid the exact same thing happens.My conclusion is that FCP does not support your video files (in your case nothing) and it should be an internal install issue.If it worked before the upgrade it’s that.– Have you tried to reinstall FCP?
That’s the only thing I can imagine in this case hoping it helps.I suppose you’ve tried everything basic like trash preferences etc.
If you have another video software installed try to open the same files in that (try Motion first) , as well.If it opens fine it’s definetely FCP if it doesn’t open it’s a more serious issue in OSX file handling.
If it doesn’t help it could be some software conflict under OSX.If you have other editing, compositing, graphics software installed mainly apple based it could occur but it’s pretty rare though.Tamas Erdosi / http://www.tamaserdosi.eu

I had the exact same problem about a year ago.ProTools as audio software and FCP for all the rest.
We always used it this way before that issue and we still use it regularly now.Apart from that specific problem that time everything is always fine.
That time the solution was to use the same computer with ProTools and FCP installed and it was perfect.When we used the editing computer it was outofsync in FCP.Superweird.
I think, it is something in FCP project itself.I never tried but maybe you could try to export an XML from your FCP project, close the project, import the XML then save it as a new project.I don’t know it helps but maybe it’s worth to give it a try.Tamas Erdosi / http://www.tamaserdosi.eu

– Are you using Snow Leopard or Leopard?
– Is the codec on the P2 DVCPRO50?
– Are the screens white when you try other type of footage?This white screen does definetely sound like a QT issue with DVCPRO50 codec.Something weird must have happened during the update.Even QT opens your files but FCP don’t I would guess an FCP install problem.I would suggest to remove and clean FCP then reinstall the software.

Since you see the proxies in XDCAM Transfer I suppose that the deck is in FAM mode.
The way I import XDCAM HD is :
1. Connect the deck
2. Set it to FAM mode (if it’s in FAM the deck’s display says PC REMOTE!)
3. Insert disc and proxies will load (you see the progress bar)
4. Set everything that you need (I mean 2 -4 audio channels , naming , folder etc.) and hit Import
5. Select the clips you want to import and hit IMPORTIt should work this way with FCP 6 and above (I don’t know FCP 5)
