I just read an article on Sin City that they didn’t go with FCP, because it couldn’t capture 10 bit 4:4:4 RGB.

Go to clip/transcode (it’s grouped with consolidate). Turns this footage into that footage. If I have DV 25 footage, I can transcode it to 15:1s.

Also, make sure you are viewing that layer, not from layers above.

I think you will be thrilled. It’ll take a week or three to retrain your brain, but the functionality of FCP over Media 100 is drastic. I’ve been trying to get my friend Omar to do this for years. If you ldo indeed dig the switch, please repost why so’s I can email him reasoning from another M100 user. =)

Anything anyone tells you on this should be disgarded save this next statement, “Both will get the job done.”
Zealots exist on both sides of the fence. If you are comfortable with PC, stay there. If not, go to a friend’s house. See if the Mac makes sense to YOU. Don’t let anyone tell you one is “better” than the other. Any “definitive” answer will 100% self serving.

Have you tried going into the media creation setting or digitize settings? See if something funky is switched on?

[Kevin Monahan] “I don’t advise remapping your FCP keyboard to resemble Avids, it will only lengthen your learning curve. Avid is not FCP, they work differently–so it pays to have the FCP mindset from the get go. This advice coming from someone that knows both platforms.”
As someone else who knows both platforms, I disagree with this vehemently.
Make the keyboard work for you. If for Kevin, it means leaving it the FCP standard way, great. FOr him, that’s correct. If Avid makes more sense to you, then map it that way. My keyboard set up is different than either, but still set up essentially the same way for either. It works best for me, and that’s what matters.

I can still do some decent effects in Avid. Anything more than that, I’d rather do it in AE than FCP or Avid, personally.
Just curious, in what way do you think Avid forces you to do it “their way”?

Mark me in the Avid camp too. FCp is a nice program for my home use… but it’s just not designed to cut as fast as Avid. It’s TOO reliant on the drag and drop ideal. Avid is built for cutting. I think FCP suffers from trying to be all things for all people.
Avid also blows FCP away (as said) in media managment. And i find Avid to be far more customizable to me. I can make Avid my bitch, where as with FCP, I have to remember to do it Apple’s way.
Just my opinion.
