thanks Kai. ya, it looks like RAM is an obvious problem. dealers aren’t always the vault of wisdom that they should be, eh? looks like i’m going shopping tomorrow!

…and how do you get to the character palette in Motion? i was in the CP earlier (from the finder), had selected the copyright symbol, tried the copy and paste technique, but nothing pasted.

it worked! you smarty pants guys! thanks.

although, unless i was doing something screwy, it wouldn’t actually import them…that is, if i opened itunes, made the changes in preferences, then tried to import the mp3 file, it always showed up ghosted and therefore not selectable. if i just merely went to the mp3 file on the hard drive, doubled-clicked it (thus opening it in itunes), i could then select to convert it to aiff under the advanced tab in itunes. either way, it worked, but i’m curious why “importing” did not work for me…

    thanks, bog!

i guess i’ll just be glad that i can do better graphics than what i had with my Toaster and Speed Razor, but allow more time to do them.

(by the way, if we all read the manuals, what good would this forum be?) : )

humbling experience, isn’t it? i’m quite a newbie, too. been on a PC for 6 years, and trying to get the hang of this very powerful package of FCP Studio.

have you got the fade in figured out yet? if not, the quickie for this one is to put your cursor over the beginning of the clip, then right click (or regular click with a single-button mouse, with the control key held down) and you can then select “add transition cross dissolve”. this works for fade outs and transitions between shots as well. hopefully this helps, but i would find a class and take it as soon as possible, or, if no classes near you, buy some of the tutorial discs and pour over them.

    take care…

maybe i did something wrong? most of this seems to be running fine, but when i render a “simple” 6-second motion project on the FCP timeline, it takes 5 minutes! and all it is is a simple font that flashes on, then flashes off. a straight font, with no animation of any kind will render in about 10 seconds.
