i have a short (5 sec.) Motion overlay to render in an SD FCP project, but the thing takes like 10 minutes to render! is this normal? i’ve tested and done a “simple” overlay (just a simple font with no behaviors, particles, etc.), and it takes about 20 seconds, so i’m just guessing that the more complicated the Motion project, the longer the render in FCP. any other workarounds for this?

It’s sort of rendering twice, once as the clip and then as the composite of layers inside FCP.
But, yes, every effect or behavior you add to anything in Motion dramatically increases the render time. There are some things you can do to streamline that but they are self-imposed limitations in your design or workflow strategies we’ve all been using in other apps for many years.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    thanks, bog!

i guess i’ll just be glad that i can do better graphics than what i had with my Toaster and Speed Razor, but allow more time to do them.

(by the way, if we all read the manuals, what good would this forum be?) : )
