Tom, is that so? When reading about the Red camera, a lot of people are really using still lenses from Nikon, Canon and Leica with good results. And they do not necessarily cost as much as $10.000.

If cost wasn´t an issue, I would go for something like you suggest.

    Thanks, Michael,

But these expensive PRO-zooms are not for me. Adding a 135mm and 200mm Nikon still lens will be enough. In fact, I have an old Nikkor 5.6/400mm, but I think it will be way too long for practical work(?).

So, a Nikon mount is probably what I need.

    Hi, bogiesan!

I have gone through all filters, and all seemed unappropriate, too extreme. But I´ll check them.

September 8, 2008 at 11:15 am in reply to: Short clips – thanks to FCP and others …

My first editing was with double-eight film. Cut clips, sort clips by hanging them in correct order, filing the ends of clips with a special tool and glueing together. This workflow didn´t encourage many short clips.

In comparison, the workflow EX1 to FCP is a thousand times better. The footage is also a thousand times better. The old times were not good old times.

But I do not like the MTV-style or the “edgy” style when it comes to nature and wildlife. I have been quite a few times to Africa on wildlife trips. What one experiences there is not running hoves, the predators killings – at least not in 2 seconds clips.

I suppose Walter and Shane are correct that it is the network people that are to blame. These people, grown up with MTV, are obviously occupying important posts even in the National Geographic network.

I recall a norweigan film about the lynx. It was a pleasure to watch, long scenes where you could really imagine that you were sitting in the forest, watching the big cats doing their business. This pleasure was also formed by the lack of extreme close-ups and the lack of “forced drama” by putting unrelated clips together.

So, I want different editing – slower is better (see my signature below). But how do I get my voice heard?

Thank you for reading and commenting here on the COW.

  • Yes, Andy. I imported the subclips in two session, changing the clip names in between.

So, the logging of clips is still to be improved.

    Hi Shane!

I didn´t see your post when I wrote “Thank myself”.

    Have never used “A”.

Where do I find keyboard shortcuts? 100s of hits in the help …

    Solved it!!!

In the toolbar, the zoom control was activated. I obviously pressed “Z” to get the zoom cursor …

    Thank myself … 🙂

September 3, 2008 at 6:18 pm in reply to: The sun in the picture?

E.g. a landscape with wide angle, aiming in the direction of the sun. If the sun is behind clouds I know there will be no problems, even behind quite thin clouds. But when the sky is clear?

So, I am not thinking of any extreme “sun-footage”. But since I normally take scenes with 10 to 20 minutes duration, if the sun is there there might be problems. Furthermore, I sometimes use a teletracker for keeping the same speed in panos as the sun´s speed across the sky …
