September 2, 2008 at 3:34 pm in reply to: Logging subclips with XDCAM EX transfer software and FCP 6.03I created two subclips, named them differently in and imported to FCP. The subclips got their differemt names as expected.
So, how did you do to have it not working?

I usually auto render a bunch of sequences in the timeline – not more than ten, since FCP has a tendency to crash when there are more sequences than ten – and when the first is done, the next starts to render without FCP telling me which one it is.
I can live with it, but it would be a nice upgrade if Apple adds this function.
Thanks anyway, Jerry.

Hi Don,
I tried to follow you in the process of creating a DVD. But how do I create a sequence for PAL?
Settings for a sequence is to complicated for me. Frame size and pixel aspect ratio – what are correct settings for them. And should QuickTime video settings be XDCAM EX?
I think that editing in XDCAM EX och exporting directly to DV PAL in Compressor is OK, but if your method is better …
TIA

I have always archived the BPAV folders. However, today I ran into some problems when importing to FC. XDCAM Transfer just showed “No media” for several clips. ( These folders have been copied with the Finder from another HDD.) I then switched to XDCAM Clip Browser where the clips where shown and could play.
I created a new folder and copied the clips with Clip Browser. And Voila! – the clips could be read in the transfer app. and could be imported to Final Cut.
Does this show that the BPAV-folder are not so safe to copy between disks? Is it better to import to FCP as soon as possible an copy the .mov files instead?

After about 8 hours of drying, the card seems to be OK.
One might call the SxS cards “Almost waterproof”.
Now I remember a story about a customer in the camera shop where I worked duing the 70´s:
The underwater camera Nikonos stopped working. A good camera – why did it not work?
– he tried to change film while in the water …

After 4 hours of drying, the card was recognised by the computer, it was possible to copy BPAV-folder to the card, but the card didn´t work properly after that. Could not be read by XDCam Transfer, folder could not be trashed.
Guess I have to buy a new one …

Thanks for the answers, all of you. Since you say that good (expensive) optical disks are reliable, I have to trust you on that. I just hope that Blu-Ray disks soon will be cheaper.
This is a great forum!

In the Viewer, you have to set an in-point and an out-point. Of course this makes the clip shorter. The part before the inpoint and the part after the outpoint will be your handles.
Th manual says “Handles are unused parts of a media” or something like that. I remember my own frustration when started with FCP – I just couldn´t understand …
So if you have a clip where you really MUST show every frame, then it is impossible make transitions with other clips. Because there must be something in your media that overlaps with the other clips.
Therefore you should leave some seconds before and after your in- and outpoints in order to be able to make transitions.
