Hey Paul-
been having my own issues, but all/most related to trying to use FCS2 (I hope an upgrade to FCS 3 will help??)
None of the funkiness you describe tho!!
As Bill C would say:
“ah feel your pain”
-just in a different spot!

Your prob maybe bad ram? pull some sticks and see if it helps?

maybe being on the bleeding-12core-edge is not so smart??

yes, FCS 3 is in the works, since I can’t go on like this!
besides, all the core power and not using latest/greatest is sorta silly 😉
Will be looking at your FCP service software too I think.

Okaaay-
So 1st time I drag in a clip to Compressor, as soon as I select a codec, the program crashes!

tried the Repair App again, no joy.

All this after a fresh install of Compressor ( 3.0.1 plus 3.0.5 update) off the install disc. Man, all these years of using Comp in my G5 tower w no probs, now in the newly-minted 12core its crash-o-rama

any thoughts?

Tried the Compressor Repair app – no joy
Tried dumping the Layout file – no joy

Reloaded Compressor off install disc-
Its Up!
so – fingers crossed, I have at least an interface now 🙂

Thanks for the inside scoop Blair. I totally agree on maintaining as much control over the ad as possible. Unfortunately we are dealing with a national organization doing numerous ad campaigns nation-wide so we are a Cog-in-the-Wheel on this one!

But your advice is sound and we will apply it on our regional client use.

Still getting conflicting info on what constitutes the best/useable quality ad formating and file layout. Surprised this issue hasn’t (??) appeared in weblogs and various forums before. Seems like an unavoidable issue for most post houses at some point!?

Thanks – I did find OWC and bought ram, so its all good.
Man, 64 gigs?? That should power the space station! Didn’t even think a Mac could ingest that much.
