The images are probably at too high a resolution – try a resize down to 72dpi.

You can run component HD out of that deck – why not just go component & RS-422 into the Kona and ignore firewire completely?

As has already been said, you probably won’t be able to copy/digitise the blu-ray discs because of the HDCP layer.
