[Christopher Tay] “When I did a render, it has to do some form of conforming…so am wondering if this is the case for tape output. “

If you change the sequence settings so that it renders in the Prores codec then it doesn’t need to conform for the ETT.

Dunno if it’s still true, but back in the day when you bought from the refurbished store the listed spec represented the minimum spec.

Over the years I’ve had several machines from the refurb store that didn’t match the description 100%. Usually they either had more memory, or bigger HD’s…

We’re editing with it, but we transfer the files direct from the disc over USB. We don’t capture any of our XDCAM material the “traditional” way.

Just out of curiosity why are you trying to digitise this way rather than do a file copy?

January 19, 2009 at 9:40 am in reply to: Final Cut Pro 6.0 Render take 10 Day

    F[James Jr Tan] “Its a wmv 1060i, also i install flip4mac. “

This is your problem right here.

Final Cut is not really designed to work natively with Windows Media Files. You need to convert this windows media file into a different codec. You can do this with quicktime or compressor. For this file a conversion to the Prores codec would probably be best.

    Also 1060i isn’t really a standard format…

It’s not really recommended to run Final Cut on the same machine as the xsan. The xsan should really be a dedicated server… Have you tried connecting another machine to your xsan to see if it has the same render problems?

That’s the setup of the xsan server right?

Are you running Final Cut on that machine – or are you running it on another mac connected to the xsan?

Are you rendering on the server? What are the system specs of the machine FCP is running on?

Not a big deal, FW800 to FW400 cables are cheap as chips.

Thanks Andy, I wasn’t aware of the limits of the XDCAM Browser! I’ll have to bear it in mind for the future…

[Andy Mees] “The Apple Quicktime codecs for XDCAM HD/EX support are only distributed as part of FCP (and are contained within the AppleHDVCodec.component bundle). “

Are you sure about this? I’m sure I’ve run the XDCAM Transfer on a machine without FCP – and I thought I was able to view the clips…
