[Tom Wolsky] “Hate have change-over connector cables hanging off a machine. Too much can go wrong. “

I can’t say I agree with you on this one. I have a few FW800 to 400 cables here and I’ve never had a problem, you can’t avoid running some kind of cable from the machine to the deck/drive. Not to mention the all the other converter cables I use every day without any problems – Phono to BNC, Phono to XLR, s-video to SCART, ect

[Bobby Miller] “They got rid of FW 400.”

No big deal. FW800 is backwards compatible, just get a FW800 to FW400 cable.

[Bobby Miller] “And there’s no matte option.”

Again not that big a deal with such a bright screen…

You don’t mention the new GPU’s, which should help with color and Aperture, or the fact that you can spec up to a 2.8GHZ machine which sounds like a pretty nice mobile edit suite to me…

    What were you expecting?

[Steven Gonzales] “I’d suggest the HVR-M15U”

Or even better – the HVR-M35

[Michael Lynch] “Final Cut Server $999/10 client license”

I personally don’t think this is worthwhile if you don’t have a big shop – plus it doesn’t really work properly without a SAN…

You can never have enough storage though!

Hello once again! Did you manage to create your DV master?

I can tell you what the terms you are asking mean, but there will be other considerations if you’re working towards broadcast – and with all due respect you might be getting out of your depth here… What tape format are you delivering on? Are your colours broadcast safe? Is your film 16×9 or 4×3?

    Anyway:

4 x 3 Full Height Anamorphic – This sounds wrong, you probably want 16×9 FHA. That would be widescreen 720×576 (or 720×480) with the Anamorphic box ticked.

4 x 3 Letterbox – This also sounds wrong, it probably just means 4×3.

16 x 9 Letterbox – This is 720×576 (or 720×480) with big black bars at the top and bottom of frame to preserve your 16×9 aspect ratio.

You should really look at something like the BBC guidelines:

    Nope. You want:

    File>Export>Quicktime Movie

    Setting: Current Setting

And make sure make movie self-contained is ticked.

This will give you a carbon copy of your timeline that you can just dump on a new sequence for your master.

Try doing a self contained export then bringing that export back into FCP for mastering.

October 10, 2008 at 4:21 pm in reply to: FCP 25p convert to 50i

What format did you shoot, and what format did you digitise?

Reading 25p as 50i doesn’t really result in missing frames…

October 7, 2008 at 11:28 am in reply to: Capturing digi

If you still see it on the DV50 and Prores captures then I’m stumped.

I have had a lot of digi material lately with excessive edge enhancement though, mostly when we’ve used the DVW-970P. Dunno if the default setting is too high… Could it be a problem with your camera?
