Wow, I’ve spent hours trying to find a program that works this simply. I’ve gone through so many of them (freeware and trial versions) and one are as good as this one. Thanks much!! It feels good to be able to leave work today knowing I achieved at least one thing!

Hmm, it doesn’t generate the peak file. No audio no matter how long I wait. I’ve been going in circles trying to find a a program that can at least convert VOBs to a usable format, and nothing.

Yes there is, but it just hasn’t been invented yet. When someone figures it out I’ll let you know 😉

February 15, 2006 at 4:26 pm in reply to: Getting video FROM a DVD

    Aanarav,

Thanks, that worked. The only problem is that the video file is 16:9, an when I turn the vob file into an mpg file and import it, Encore is only reading it as 4:3. When I select the asset and go to File, “Interperet Footage” is grayed out.

Is there any way I can get this thing into 16:9?

    Thanks!

  • With the way it is now, we have to update all AE licences at the same time…

Exactly what they want. More $$ for them.

Why does AE have secret prefs at all? They seem pretty useful — and it seems pretty stupid to hide them.

Well, DV and HD are too totally different things, unless you’re doing HDV. Either way, highest quality export would be any uncompressed format, whether as an avi or Quicktime.

January 20, 2006 at 10:45 pm in reply to: Basic help with masking/rotoscope

AE is not the strongest tool for rotoscoping. If you have Pro, you can make a mask and then interpolate the mask from keyframe to keyframe, but AE is not the best at it (at some point, Adobe is supposed to upgrade it’s roto features, but apparently that didn’t happen for 7.0).

You’re better off getting a plug-in like Roto by Silhouette FX (www.silhouettefx.com), or even going with Combustion 4, which does roto really well.

Thanks! The roughen edges method actually works pretty well.
