  • Non AE7 question – Wiggling a stroke

Posted by Stone Reader on January 17, 2006 at 4:51 pm

Hey guys, I know all the talk is going to be about AE7 today, but hopefully I can sneak in a non AE7 question.

Is it possible to wiggle a stroke created on a mask/path, or even wiggle a stroke created using the standard paint tool, to get that “shaky animation” look?

By “shaky animation”, I mean the look you can get when you use the Vector Paint tool in AE Pro and enable wiggling.

    Thanks!

instead of using the stroke filter, try using the scribble filter.

enable one of the “edge”-fill types instead of the inside -option.

then twirl open Edge-options and set the width to 1

Adjust the stroke-options to control how curve-y the wiggle is.

An unfortunate drawback is that Scribble always has an “angle”, and for some mask, this breaks the line.
You have to experiment with that angle-value as different angles give quite different results, you’ll see what I mean.

So, it does have some drawbacks, and depending on the shape of the path it might or might not work.

A different approach might be to use a soft roughen edges on a normal stroke

Thanks! The roughen edges method actually works pretty well.
