Hi Avid-users. For months Ive had the following problem with going back to Avid; I do work in normal range, rendering MXF normal range and dropping the databasefiles in the bin. Now, I registrate major gamma issues. In Avid the material looks flat, dull, less black and less white on my calibrated monitor. It looks crispy on the monitor when working in Resolve. IN Avid I need to make some lift/highlight adjustments on the top layer to make it look like it did in Resolve. I would love if someone can help me out. Thanks.

Gabrielle, I do experience the same thing. The viewer (computer monitor) does not show full range and total black. Last month we had a guy from Sony over that did calibrate the monitor and the computer screens, but this is still ny experience. When viewing normal range both the monitor and computer screen look the same.

Joseph, have you tried exporting DNxHD from Resolve to Mediacomposer, put the files in the avid media folder /123etc, rebuilding a new database? In other words – the usual way.

I am experiencing huge gamma shifts when opening in Avid. The monitor is set to normal range, export from Resolve in normal range, and Avid is set to normal range.
I need to do a gamma correction on the top layer in Avid to compensate.

Ok, this is something they should take a look at.
So how do you “window” og cut out the part you want with this method?

Hi, yes I have tried Tiff.

Do you work with normal scale monitoring, exporting normal scale and changing to normal scale in Avid?
It is not viewing correct gamma here.

    Hi,

Do you export and view it in an another application like Avid? Or are you comparing the gamma values in QT-player? That will obviously mess everything up.

Problem with Avid is that no method works. With regular dnXhd-export, databasebuilding – there is no way the gamma will be perfect. In this case it does not matter if you choose to read the files as unscaled or normal scales video. Its an Avid issue.
You need to put a gamma corrector on a top layer to compensate.

I do listen if anyone has a better solution?

The best way to check the files is to import them to After Effects, Smoke or Flame.
